Hey man, Thats about the right price. You have to understand although it can be replaced for probly less than half that, they wont. City work is expensive. I know my buddy that makes around $45+/ hour working for the city, and thats just telling people what to do.

Injuneer has a point, you need to realize that it was your responsibility to keep your insurence updated. It was on you to know weather or not your girlfriend was going to drink and drive. Think about this, If she had gotten killed, That would have some what been your fault bc she had your car, and if im not mistaken you guys were sharing a car at one point (if im not mistaken) but regardless its messed up you have to pay that. I personally think you should have your girl Pay it, Why would you. But Yeah if you had insurence, I think they would be obligated to pay. Also they might now have since you both live together and reply to the same address so It would not cover the car if it washer driving.
