      Unbelieveable. Actually... Totally believeable.

You would think with a car like the Viper, they would treat it with kid gloves. I mean, even if it were a Dodge Stratus it should be treated with respect... But Vipers are considered a collector's car.

The stories my brother has told me over the years has made me seek out and befriend specific people at dealers for warranty work.

yea deff get a set of ramps and do it yourself. when i was still working the trade, i cant tell u how many customers would leave the local lube-n-go and come to us to fix the problem. we had to do at least 5 engines in 3 years cause of the "oil techs" are the places forgot to add oil or tighten the plug or filter.

I did this once when i was 11 when I used to go with my dad to work during the summer and winter breaks at the car shop he used to work at.

Then again I was loosening the plug not tightening and spilt a lot of oil all over the flood.

maybe its just me, but how the hell to you forget to put oil in a car when your doing an oil change? it's like forgetting to put the meat on the bread when your making a sandwhich.

I've forgot to do that before and it ruined my damn day! I was so embarrassed when everyone saw I had two slices of bread for lunch.

Before I put a car up on the lift, I pull the fill cap and lay it on the cowl and leave the hood up. That way, it is very difficult for me to forget to fill the oil.

I always take the bottles of oil out and set them in the engine bay. It's a little hard to miss them there. I never did it to keep myself from forgetting though.

One nice thing about the C5 is you don't need a funnel to put oil in it. There is room to get the bottle in standing up then pour it in. They even made the filler neck to the valve cover fit the Mobil 1 bottle. The bottle just slides right in and it holds the bottle up.

Putting on a oil pan plug with an impact gun??

A brief story of a car guy, his frustration with "quicky-lube" and his retribution:

After having had many a car changed at a "quicky-lube", we decided to change them ourselves. I, being the car guy, got to change many of them. The dang oil filters were on so tight that I busted a couple. Not fun!!

I did get payback on 'em. Brought a '94 Buick Regal with a Series I 3800. The oil filter is buried in the mess of engine above the transaxle, where no tool nor large hand can reach. If you can get your hand on it, there's little room to torque on it.

It took them nearly 20 minutes to get the oil filter off. You could feel the struggle.

That was the last time I ever dealt with changing the oil on that thing. (That may be the last time its oil was changed... )

Out of all the different cars I have changed oil on, I have to say VW takes the boat. They are total DS (Dog Poop for Rated G viewers) to get to the oil filter. Its covered by this plastic shroud in front.

Horrible design. Thats why I like Chevy, Just about all their cars are easy. I used to love changing the oil on the Cavaliers with the EcoTech. With the canister Type filter on the top by the head, Easy!

I second that. My wife HAD a New Beetle. What a PITA. The filter is on the side of the engine about half way up and at a 30 degree angle. There were I think 3 large hoses that ran under it. So you loosen the filter and since it is at an angle oil runs down the side of the engine and down the side of the filter down your arm until it soaks into your shirt and all over the hoses under it. Then you have to fight the hoses to get the filter out from under the hood spilling oil the whole time. Every time I changed the oil it cost me a can of carb cleaner and a new T shirt. After a few oil changes I told her she either had to trade the car or take it to get the oil changed. When the timing belt tensioner broke at 59k miles and it slammed several valves under warrantee by 1 day I told her we are trading the car.

Yeah brother...had a 03 Passat that you have to take off the ending basically to do the water pump (plastic impellers!). Or the new jetta that has the air filter mounted on the backside of the engine! You have to remove the engine shroad, bolts, clamps and hoses. WTF?
