  • So.....that was scary

Ok, I'm a bit calmed down after all of this and thought I'd post my experience.

    Read:
    http://kdka.com/local/ATM.Robbery.North.2.1063924.html

So I came out of the Olive Garden at about 12:45 Saturday and was about to hop in my car when I heard a lady scream. Now I've heard kids scream when I'm teaching so it's no big deal and I tune it out.....but then I remember a lady being robbed at the bank beside the Olive Garden on Sunday last week. So I jogged up on top of a small hill to see what was happening. A dude and a lady were chillin at the ATM and I'm like OK, whatever.

Then he starts walking quickly away and I finally realize what is going on and yell "HEY!" then he flashes a silver pistol in my direction... and I just remember thinking "JESUS C****!" At that point I already had my cell in my hand ready to dial 911. My call had already been connected to the 911 operator before he even got in his brand new black Impala and peeled out. He leaves the PNC bank and passes me and stares directly at me as I read his plate and yell at the lady to remember the tag.

The cops come and I give a full description of what happened. Turns out there was another lady who watched from a distance. The cops were very grateful for the info we collected since there were no witnesses to last week's robbery. This robbery happened a week to the day, just in the afternoon. The victim said he went up to her and said "you're going to withdraw $400." She laughed and thought he was kidding until he showed her the gun.

I got a call from the detectives today around 9 and noon today to tell me that the dude shot himself in his car when the police served a search warrant on him. Turns out the plates WERE a match to a black impala.

It was quite an ordeal. It has made me think about purchasing a gun and getting a permit to carry...the sight of that gun is something I will never forget.

Glad you are OK. The bad thing is for most people it takes something bad to happen to them BEFORE they buy a gun. Sometimes it's too late. I'm glad it is not for you. I'm also glad there is one less skum bag on the earth today because you stood your ground and got enough information to get the guy. Good job!

Great job. You're lucky that you weren't closer. That could have been bad.

Wow Glad you are safe as well as the lady. I always wonder what is going through those people heads that lead them to that point ... oh yeah nothing related to consequences.

My Father who hates guns, to the point that he was not certified to carry one in the AF during Viet Nam (either people beside him got excellent marks lol) has recently bought a gun and a shotgun at the urging of his wife . People do not respect your property or your very right to life anymore. If my Father bought a gun, you know the world isn't as safe as it used to be!

I am glad everything turned out ok! That's a hairy situation to be a part of. It is unfortunate that hard-working people have to be put in that kind of situation. Cheers on a job well done. If you do decide to take on the responsibility of concealed carry, training is your friend. It is easy to get a cpl in Pennsylvania but harder to know what to do in that kind of situation.

Glad to hear that everything turned out ok. I'm afraid with the state of things as they are, we may be seeing a lot more of this. Desperation leads people to do things they usually wouldn't do and that guy sounded pretty desperate.

wow..you were lucky... way to keep a fairly cool head..

if you do get a pistol and cwp... make sure you go the range often...and if you ever pull it.. be prepared to pull the trigger without hesitation...the bad guys wont hesitate.

I am a police officer and I carry off duty all the time. Remember if you pull a gun be prepared to use it as the people on the street are animals and do not value life. They think it is a game and they do not hesitate to pull one and shoot. I will say this once, DO NOT BLUFF! If you are unfortunate enough to be in a position to use deadly force, your next step if the individual does not stop his/her actions should be to render the individual incapable of causing anymore harm.

                    Nice job, man.

You did the right thing. Having a gun brandished in your direction is life-changing. It changed my life for sure. As Jeff said, it shouldn't take something like that to get our permits but it did it for me seven years ago.

                    I'm glad you're okay.

If you are serious about carrying, may I reccomend FIRE Institute for training. This was a recomendation from another board. Also check this page as it has four others in Pennsylvania and many more across the USA.

Be sure to remember attend training that is required to protect yourself from backlash should you be forced to use deadly force.

Good job standing up for what's right. Hopefully with a little luck, this guy(s) will be caught and put in their place.
