2A533 Bomber Avionics...which is now integrated avionics which means I could be working on some of the heavies, too. I had fighter avionics listed but the bomber avionics came up so I jumped on it. I ship to basic on 15June2010. Until then, much exercise and memorization and keeping myself qualified...

I'm in Dover now. Learning all about the C-5's. Huge freakin plane. I'm on active orders for at least another 8 months. After that, i just may be signing up for active duty. (reserve now) Then we'll see where that takes me.

"hands on" after tech school. I'm in something called QTP. Not sure if its at all bases or not. Do you know where you are going to be stationed at yet?

Not really...There are a bunch of bases and I guess it depends on the 'shread' i get.I probably won't know for about a year from now...I have to decide whether to sign for 4 yrs active, 4 yrs inactive or 6yrs active, 2 yrs inactive. Basically, if I sign for 6 yrs, I will start out as e-3 after tech school otherwise I will start out as e-1. However if I sign for 6 yrs and hate my job, I won't be able to cross train for 5 of them whereas if I signed for 4, I could crosstrain after 3... Do you know or can you ask around how long it takes to get to e-3 after tech? Thanks...

Well the first couple of ranks are given to you:

E-2 is 6 months time in grade which starts when the member enters IADT (what ever that means)

E-3 is 6 months time in grad at E-2.

So it would take you a year to get to A1C. It may or may not be beneficial to you depending on the length of you tech school...Mine was only 9 weeks, so it was well worth me signing for 6 years.
