In preparation for the 383 build, I'll be installing a SLP Ultra-Z ramair hood with airbox and K&N filter. I'll also be installing a exhaust but have yet to definitely pick a brand.

My question is this: What exhaust will make my convertible sound a little meaner but not make it a pain to drive with the top down? I have a wife and kids that will complain if it is too obnoxious. I'm also interested in making sure it performs.

I've been looking at THIS model from SLP. What are your thoughts? I'm a bit concerned that the intermediate pipe appears to have a flat spot in it where it crosses over the axle. Do they all have that? Is it necessary?

For that kind of money I would go with the Borla and install the automatic cut-out to control the sound.
97 Trans Am A4 more or less stock (Mods: WS6 Ram Air with Fernco & K&N, 12 disc CD changer, power antenna, SLP Fan Switch, LS1 Aluminum DS, Borla Cat back, McCord power plate, Spohn tower brace, Sirius, HID fog lights)

Are you getting headers? If so what kind? I know you wanted the stock look, but with a 383 build up, headers would obviously help that baby perform, only reason why I'm asking.

From what I've heard, SLP makes a good cat back, but people have some times complained about SLP exhausts in combination with headers. I've heard corsa and borla have nice catbacks to compliment headers....and it wouldn't be that abnoxiously loud or anything.

I'm not doing headers. Everything, but headers actually. I know it'll cost me some power, but it'll be a beast anyhow. I want the engine to look stock. The only non-stock parts visable under the hood will be a black STB and a ramair box.

I used to have the Borla on a 1995 Z and loved it. Do you think it would be to loud on a ragtop? I suppose I could get a electric cutout control for it and mount th knob in the ashtray.

I guess I'm more worried about the wife. It's not that big a deal, though.

Who has the best price on the Borla system? The best I've seen was $725 delivered.

I personally think a borla would sound pretty good. I have never heard that SLP catback that you had the link to, I've only heard my loudmouth. But, i can say from people i have talked to that they like SLP catbacks, but with headers they tend to choose another one. Since you are not doing headers, i wouldn't rule out that SLP one, but i would try and get a sound clip if i were you.

Borla though always, IMO, has a nice healthy sound to it. I personally like the sound of a corsa catback as well though.

If I were you, the first thing i would try and do is get some soundclips, everyone obviously has different tastes. If it were me though, and i wanted a nice sound, I would probably go with a borla. It will definitely have a nice rumble to it, and it shouldn't be too bad when you're cruisin with the top down
A cutout is also something to consider, but i think i personally wouldn't get one.
Good luck with the decision making, and when you finally get it all done, i might have to take a ride up to madison this summer and check it out

MAGNAFLOW, MAGNAFLOW, MAGNAFLOW. Tracy, it sounds like you want exactly what I wanted. Something that rumbled but wasn't obnoxiously loud, ie loudmouth. Magnaflow sounds perfect for you. check out www.ls1sounds.com and check out some of the sounds. Great SS system, and the tips look killer.

I've never heard magnaflow on an LT1, only on a carbed motor. It definitely has a deep rumble to it, but not too loud at all (for an aftermarket exhaust of course ).
Try getting some sound clips though, it's worth it....you definitely don't want to get stuck in a situation where you aren't 100% satisfied with what you bought.

I'll try and find some sound clips before i have to leave work.

                      I hope this link works.

These are various exhaust setups on random gm 350's. Some are F-body, some are corvette, etc....

Something to get you started, if i find a better site, i'll post the link.

Price musta went up, cause I have my receipt right in front of me. I saw the price on their site and it made me double check cause I know I didn't pay that much. Give them a call and tell them that you have one of their catalogs and it's listed for 323... Plus 10 dollars due to the size of the box I think.

Cool thing about MF... It fits 93-97. Since you have the 94, it comes with the extra pipe you need, no need to buy a kit, like SLP makes you do with some of their systems.
