what was the ws6 package in 1989 on a trans am?

just the WS6 package included, Level III suspention (bigger sway bars better shocks and stiffer springs, also rear springs were called cargo springs) 16x9 aluminum wheels dished(bigger offset in fron than back to clear the better suspension). A badge on the passenger side under cubby hole or letter holder that said "performance suspension" From 89 on the rear brakes were the PBR type with bigger discs on all cars, previously only on WS6. Usually they got the 9 bolt aussie posi (cone type). There are more RPO codes to look for G92 1LE(rare) and G80. If its a 305 std. WS6 it will have the 9 bolt and 3.45 gears. I think thats all. No engine mods.

WS6 could be had on GTA/trans am/formula See sig There are even rumors that there are a few base line v6 firebirds with the WS6 handling package minus the wheels. But of course there is no facts to back this claim. Thought I have seen a v6 with the "performance suspension" badge on the dash. But it was wrecked a week later, so there was no need to look at it

yeh i had a 89 formula too and the center caps said ws6, but i know you can just go out and get center caps anywere.

true, but lucky for me I have the RPO codes still and can prove it

ok so this car has no rpo codes any where, drum rear brakes and 15" wheels. it only has the badge on the dash

you can bring the VIN to a local GM daeler and get them to retrive the RPO codes for it. It sounds like a fake to me. But there are Drum brake WS6s out there, just not to many. But the front tires would rub on the sway bars when you turn if it is a WS6. It may be a car with some of the suspension stuff added. Best thing would be to get the RPO codes. ALL WS6 cars had to have 16 inch wheels with special offset in the front to clear the heavy swaybars.

I tried to get the RPO codes from a Canadian Dealer in my home town but he says that it must be a USA car as he gets an error. Just to see if he was BSing me I ganve him mine and he got them right away. He says any GM or pontiac dealership in the USA can run the vin and get the RPO codes. All they need is the last 8 numbers (year/Plant/prod. #). I trust this guy as he never led me in the wrong direction yet.

tried the dealer and no dice. have a call in to pontiac now

Mine has the performance suspension badge on the dash but it's not a ws6. It still has rear drums but it does have the 16" wheels. No idea what kind of package that was. Could be a replacement dash. Maybe that's why it still looks so good

well the TA got level II suspention, not sure if it got a badge or not, but it could explain why people have the badge
I also thought that the TAs all got 16 inch rims starting in 87 or so.
