The infinity should be a little slower. Same engine, but the infinity is going to weigh a little more.

A good friend of mine just got a used 04 Nissan 350Z with a standard transmission and 23K miles. I have a 97 Z28 A4 with 126K miles - bone stock except for a catback exhaust system and a K&N Intake. We did three 1/4 mile runs to just over 100 mph (weather was perfect - low humidity, no rain, a mild day). This was not on the track but on Interstate 10 east (San Antonio, TX) - nice and smooth. We used markers to determine the distance. I took him all three times. In the first race, the launch was a major factor and traction could easily be the deciding factor. The Nissan 350Z hooked up immediately while I lost time spinning my wheels. Due to the traction issue, he had me at first - at least two or three car lengths. But each time he shifted, my automatic would gain a car length or two. After 70 MPH, he started losing power but my LT1 relentlessly pulled ahead. In the end, I beat him by at least four or five car lengths. After I got a handle on the traction problem, I won by more distance on the other two runs. Yes, he gave me a hell of a run . . . . .impressive but not quite fast enough.

I give a shift thats why I bought a spec-v... its got 6 of them positions, not counting reverse. And I couldn't afford anything nicer with this many gears at the time.

Guys, learn to tune me out. I deal with people that don't know what they're talking about so in turn, i give the wrong information. Sorry! First, my grandpa says he wants my car. then he tells me he doesn't. Then this-today i was telling my girlfriend that her friends car is faster than mine. She replies with, "Oh, i was wrong. He got a Dodge Stratus. I think he was telling me that he liked the 350Z". Hmmm, gotta watch out for those. Torque monsters! Actually, they're awesome cars. My grandma has a 98 with the base engine in it. It was peppy and it's actually the car i learned how to drive in Thanks again guys.

Not to worry. Even if that guy ever gets a 350Z, you know you can say with confidence "meet me at the track" and put your money where your mouth is. American muscle still rules . . .

By then though i might have a turbo DSM (again, don't listen to me!). I figured out it's almost the perfect car for me. AWD is great for launching and bad weather driving, in non- boost mode they get probably 30 MPG's on the highway as they're small 4 bangers and i'll just be babying it, when the turbo kicks in, it's peppy, any kind of modifications work wonders for those cars. The only problems i have with them is that first, they're 4 bangers and for some reason, that just doesn't sit right with me, second- i'm not looking forward to turbo lag and third- to get an AWD Eclipse or Talon (not sure if the Plymouth Laser made an AWD version) in even half decent condition, i'll probably spent around $5,000- $6,000. Also the power loss involved in AWD is vile. I'm not sure if i'd want a FWD DSM. Just not the same. I'd love one though. The way things work in my life though, i'll probably keep the T/A. Not that i'm complaining because the only things that aggravate me about the car are minor problems but i just need a change. The 1st to 2nd shift is harsh and while i'm in first, it feels like putting any amount of pressure on the gas pedal will cause my tires to spin. Sometimes i wonder if my car is modified and i just don't know about it such as some head work or something. I've spun the tires without even trying when the ground was bone dry, not to mention i'd just gotten off of the parkway after an hour worth of driving so the tires were nice and sticky. Probably just feel this way because it's my first car with any form of power.

                    g35 coupe

i raced a g35 coupe auto and i whipped him from a 20mph roll (i was 3 cars ahead) at the light when we raced he got traction right away so i was 1/4 car behind for a sec or 2 but i left him like a rotten cookie so.... 350z is practicly the same car...... go for it .........

Turbo lag is over-rated. It isn't that bad, and if you have a good setup you won't even feel it. You want the AWD, you just don't have as much power from a roll because of the added drivetrain, but it beats FWD anyday of the week.

I was thinking about a FWD as they're so much cheaper but i'd really love an AWD. Not into spending tons of money though. I don't care how "collectable" they are, i'm not spending $8,000 on a 5 speed AWD Eclipse with 100k+ miles on it. I've been looking like a nutcase but all i can find that are even reasonably priced are FWD's. If i really catch DSM fever i'll just get a Plymouth Lazer. They're only FWD's and they're just as good only much much cheaper. I'm also considering a Starion/ Daytona/ Conquest. Heard nothing but good about them. They're pretty cheap too assuming you can find one. Time to do some research
