  • Z28 SS

Hello, i am looking to purchase a 2000 and up Z28. I looked at a few. How do i tell if it is truely a Z28 SS car. I looked at one that had the hood scoop, SS badges on the sides and rear. I did not see an SS badge inside the car in the pics. It also had exausts on both sides, is this stock? It is a 2000 Z28. Can i tell from the Vin, and what is the code i should look for? Thanks

2000 will have an SLP Engineering (producers of the SS model) decal on the passenger side door listing what, if any, SLP options it has. Also in the glove box on the options decal should have a Y2Y code which states "SS" model.

      SS BADGING?

Thanks for the info, i see a 2Y2 in the vin in the 9-11 spot. I will look again or ask the dealer to look for the badging for me.

The code is NOT in the VIN. You need to look for the Y2Y code on the options sticker, not the VIN.

If you are unsure, contact SLP and give them the VIN number. They can verify it for you. www.slponline.com

one newer f-bodies...the options sticker is on the driveside door...not the glove box. I think they started putting it on the door in 97.

I have a 2000 SS and the SLP sticker is on the passenger door. I believe that is the norm.

Yeah but isn't your GM RPO code decal on the drivers?

On the drivers door is the Service Parts Identification sticker which is probably what you refer to as the RPO decal. Also there is an SLP sticker saying something to the affect that they have modified the car (when they turn it into an SS). The sticker on the passenger side shows all the extra cost options that are installed on the car (if any) by SLP.

So the real tipoff....at least on 2002's......should be the two SLP stickers. If you see those, then you most likely have found a true SS.

the slp sticker is on the pass. door. its a dot compliance decal. its required. in earlier models there was also one under the hood.

and to insure its an ss.......you can always find a firehawk, then go to the track........if its an ss......it will lose............
