  • Firehawk Engine?

hello... i was wondering if anyone knew of anything about camaros with firehawk engines. my car is a 94 z28 and it will spin tires going into second fairly easily. i have driven other z28s that were newer that didnt do that. the car seems to be stock but im not sure. i bought the car with a blown head gasket and the guy that i had take it apart for me told me that the engine code matched up with that of a firehawk. for a 94 its pretty fast. the other day i raced a 97 trans am 6 spd with exaust and gears... i beat him by atleast a car length and a half in a race that was close to 1/4 mile in length and i cant quite beat a new ss but i can hang fairly well. i am not so sure so i was wondering if anyone had heard of a car like mine[/FONT]

who ever you talked to was on drugs. there is no such thing as a Firehawk engine.

All f bodies with a v8 got the same motor, the LT-1. The firehawks recieved an upgrade with slp engineerings exhaust system and a ram air unit, other than that, ther is no diffence in the LT-1 that came in any other f body for that particular model year.

some Lt-1's run stronger that others. Our Firehawk has one of those "1 in 500".. its chirps third with an A4 and bolt ons. My Comp TA didnt, but I built it up so it would run with an LS-1. You may have been lucky and just got a strong lt-1 from the factory..but.......

firehawk engine................ tell that guy to do his homework.......hahaahahhahaahaha

        100 SS's and 29 Firehawks.

        97's.

the guy that told him that should have known by the red intake and red heads... not the engine serial number. and i would think the owner would see the motors diff from his buddies in color too.........

It can happen to any motor. Motors always have a set of tolerances. The "looser" motor is likely to win. There are a few other small factors such as a well balanced engine vs a lemon underpowered motor.
For some examples of the variances on the LS1, read this thread:
              http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=320865

I've seen underperforming LS1s run 100 in the traps, all the way to "factory freaks" run 110 in stock form.

To truly know how good your motor is, the only way is to dyno it, or even take it to the strip.

yup. thats right. the dyno numbers all over the board for both lt-1's and ls-1's...ive been exsposed to hundreds over the years... its amazing... up to 30rwhp...some cases more!

                heck..joe thought he had a v6...............................

ALL ENGINE CODES MATCH THAT OF A FIREHAWK

ALL LT1 engine codes are 'S' on the VIN
