  • Sub Boxes...just venting a lil

Well I just got my new Power Acoustik stuff for my car and I had the bright idea to attempt to let my boyfriend build me a sub box...I had a fiberglass top for the subs just needed a box to go around it.. Well he measured everything right but the height. We measured it to go on the flat part of the hatch so I could still have my t-tops space. Well we put it in and I'm not very tall and yea I can't see out of the back hatch at all. It's about 2inches too wide for the t-tops space which I was willing to sacrifice, but I dont think I want to now lol..now I'm stuck witha box I can't/don't want anymore..and custom enclosures that allow t-top storage are expensive the one I liked is around 300 and I am def. not gonna let my boyfriend attempt another box for me :-).If anyone knows of any sites with custom enclosures could ya please post a link for me it'd be much appreciated, thanks!

I have been thinking about this for a while. On ebay there was a camaro SS sub holder that replaced the flip lid on the trunk so you could flip it away from the trunk when you needed the space. He wanted 200 I think for it, kind of a bit but a good idea. I dont have a link for you though. There are TONS of sites that will go through making a custom box though. good luck

I dont want the flip lid one because I have a pretty big amp with a Plasma Sphere display in the middle that has blue and white lightning bolts that shoot through it and I want that to show on the flat hatch part and when u flip it up for t-top storage it lays on it , yes I am picky but If Im going to pay a high price for something I want it done the way I want it :-) but Thanks Ya

This is the only one that I have found that will not interfere with the T-top rack.

This is the one i have http://www.subthump.com/acamarostealth.htm it works great, I only have one 10in sub, and an 1100 watt mono amp, you cant sit in the car with it cranked. I mounted the amp to the area above the gas tank. Hope this helped.

While the "t-top box" is good in theory, they didn't do a good job with the manufacturing. Basically all they did was leave a gap. Both tops are resting against each other, and in the event of a crash, they will shatter. Not to mention they are sticking up and probably block rear view. Heck, in high heat situations like down here in the south, they'd probably shatter over a rough bump with them touching each other like that! What they should have done is build the box with 2 slots in it and have the tops slide farther down in the hole. Then you could have 2-10's or 2-12's with both tops slid down so far that all you have sticking up is the latching section. You could even top it off with a velcro adjustable strap to hold the tops down in the box so they wouldn't fly out in a crash.

I have a T-top car, but I never take the tops out. However, because I wanted to keep them functional, I have the JL audio stealthbox (a lot more than $200) and it pounds. Most people think I have 2-10's and not just one. If you want 2 subs and you want to keep the t-top holders, you need to go with the dual stealth boxes. It's gonna cost a ton, but I would not trust that "t-top box" with my high dollar t-tops.

The way my car is right now, I can do one of two things. I have the stealthbox mounted in the drivers cubby. Then the t-top holders. On the right side I have a 50 disc (not a misprint) CD changer and a 15 pound bottle in the spare tire well. If I want more bass, I slide in the box I made for my car for 3-10's, and it fits in the t-top well, flush against the drivers cubby, and up against the door of the 50 disc changer. It takes 10 minutes to go from 3-10's with the tops in to 1-10" with the tops out. I also have my 1200/5 Directed amp mounted on the package tray along with 2-1 farad caps behind a plexiglass windowed MDF display board, with the amp elevated for better cooling. I cover the amp rack with the factory flip panel so the sunlight stays off of it (and wandering eyes can't see my stuff).

just a thought -i dont know if break in's are very bad where you are from-but you might not want to put the amp there--if people can see it walking by then its more likely to be broken in to-im re doing mine and one of the main priorities is not being able to see it unless im showing it to you

i dont have a problem with breakins in our area, the TA stays at home most of the time, and home is really secure. But just to make me feel better, i left the little flapper lid that the t-tops go under in the car, and if i have to park at the mall or places like that, i flip it up before i leave the house and it does a really nice job in covering the amp. The windows are tinted at 5% and you cant really see anything in there. Works out great, but you are right it could be a problem in your area, so keep that in mind when you do your equipment placement

Here's an idea that should allow you to still use your factory T-top holders plus add in the subs. Get one of these for whatever size of subs you wanna add, 10s or 12s,...

and leave slack on the wiring to the actual subs. This is actually 2 enclosures built into a bracket that fits on the back. Then, then you need to get to the holders, simply lift the bracket and viola. You can get them at Crutchfield. Hope this helps.

That is a Q-form box, and if I remember correctly, it requires the removal of the t-top holders. Regardless, there is no way you can put the tops in with that box in place. It looks good, but the subs are recessed in that box, so all the air comes from underneath. That won't work for what she wants.
