  • Re program 95 Z

Preparing to get chip re programmed or buy one of the programmers for a 95 Z. Any recommendations. Already have info from madZ28, and speedensity. 350.00 for the programer vs. 80.00 + 115.00, for re programing. Some of the 115.00 is refunded when chip is returned. Also anyone know who sells a 160 degree thermostat for this LT.

personally, I would have it dyno tuned. A mail order program is only going to be a "ballpark" tune and for a relatevly stock configuration that might be fine. In your case I wouldn't recommend it. I'm sure there are those that will say it's good enough, but I'm not sold. Where in Florida are you? Perhaps I could recommend a tuner that will put it on the dyno and get it right. Programmers aren't going to get you the results you are looking for.

For less than $200, you can get Tunercat and the necessary cable to connect to a PC or laptop and do your own tuning.

Maybe it is because my set-up is relatively common, but Ion at MadZ28 had it dialed in pretty good. My AFR's were on the money on the dyno. He said that he would tweak it when I got my dyno results, but really, theres no need. If I were to recommend a tuner it would be him......definately ditch the hypertech programmer idea though.....waste of money.

I downloaded Tuner cat and LT1 edit and I didn't have a clue how to fix the over rich WOT condition. I got www.PCMforless.com to fix mine. He made me a program, e-mailed it to me and I uploaded it. Pretty cool how you can do that. Now I have the cable that I can use to monitor it on a laptop.

            Programing

Thanks for the feedback. I live in Wesley Chapel Fla. about 20 minutes from Tampa. I have always been a do it yourselfer. I like the tunercat idea, but I would also try Dyno tuning it.

Dyno-tuning would be the best way to go. Might be a little more expensive than a mail-order tune, but it'll be a much better tune. Worth every cent in most every case.

$450 for a full tune, but can do baselines initially for $65-75 to see if it needs to be done. If you were to buy your own software, dyno time rental can be in the $100-125 range per hour w/ wideband A/F usage and there can be a minimum of 2-3 hours charged at different shops. They charge $125 per hour and a 1 hour minimum.

Rev Xtreme in Brandon does pretty good. they run about $500 for a dyno tune. check them out at www.revxtreme.com

These three sources should be able to handle your needs. The latter is just a little south of you.

Wesley Chapel, eh? Played quite a few rounds there at saddlebrook.
