  • mileage on new tune?

What kind of mileage did you guys get with a new tune for a *relatively* stock setup? On pure city driving with terrible stoplights, I got 11.1 mpg with a new PCMFORLESS tune. That was my first all-city run...with 80% city, 20% freeway, I got 14 mpg previously. I don't really care about the actual mileage, just want to make sure it's tuned correctly and/or running right...11 seems a bit low considering the tune was supposed to lean out the rich mixture a bit (is that right?) Thanks in advance.

I got 17.6 mpg all city driving like grandma. Actually my normal driving has been around 15 and that includes several WOT to speed limit.

I seemed to be getting lower and lower gas mileage so I checked it and it was around 9-10mpg

I took it into the shop and have been trying to fix it since, atm I am up to 17-18mpg and atm I am testing my injectors to hopefuly totaly fix the problem.

It could be that you have something else wrong and you just need to fix it.

I would shoot myself if I was getting the MPGs you guys are... I'm perfectly fine with my 19 city MPGs and 26 highway. I love stock...hahaha, not really.

Hey man, didn't they say they recommend running the ported MAF ends? That might be part of the problem, since it sounds like they programmed for more coming in than actually is. Worth a shot I suppose

That does seam a bit low. Does the car seem to be running alright? Isn't most of whats done in a tune is work out power enrichment mode which is for WOT? When was your last tune up (plugs, wires, 02's, fuel filter, opti ok?)?

How much would it cost to have a mechanic change my oxygen sensors? I need to do a tune up badly. I just spent $36 to fill up my gas tank.

You could probably do the O2 sensor's yourself, they simpy unscrew and screw. If you're gonna be doin' plug and wires, that's the least of your worries lol.

Speaking of plugs, have you checked your current ones Craig? The ones that were done after the vandalism may be shot now. I've still got that set sittin' here too

I'm with Steve 02's aren't that bad but doing plugs is whats going to be hard or costly at a garage. My 02's were like $70 or $80 from Sam Taylor. If the garage would let you give them the new 02's and install them it shouldn't be more than $20 in labor or you could do it yourself. Just climb under there with a wrench unhook the connector and unscrew them. Depending on how long they've been in there they may be seized in there a little and some pb blaster and a little heat should do the trick.

                          Thanks for the replies guys...
Everything is brand new, including the whole fuel system, ignition system, and some emissions related components.

Steve is right though...Bryan mentioned to me that the tune was for ported MAF ends and I switched back to stock for now. I will switch them out and see. I think it had a lot to do with my driving style that fuel run.
Also, my commute is roughly 3.9 miles one way. It takes me 15 minutes to get to work...so I guess that's about a 15 mph average...and I'm usually around 50 mph between lights. Maybe it's the constant excessive acceleration and sitting at lights?

"Excessive" acceleration? That's what we're calling it now, huh? lol

LOL ..."Excessive Acceleration" is definetly going to put a damper on your gas milage. Next time you take it on a trip and get a tank on mainly highway milage check it then and compare it to what you had before that'll give you a better idea.
