Did anyone notice in the beginning of the video, they said they don't normally "choose" to test American cars? Oh well... Still gotta love those Brits. Another thing I found humorous, was when he called the Viper garbage. It was funny for two reasons. One, in comparison to the Vette, it probably is. Two, how about the British auto maker Jaguar? Those cars can easily hit prices as high or higher than the Viper, and they are reknown for being extremely unreliable.

    Silly Brits.

Well the Viper wasn't designed to compete in the category of the Vette, Lamborghinis and Ferraris. It was designed as a test bed for things to come and made to compete with the 67 427 AC Cobra. It was designed to be the fasted accelerating car on the planet which they achieved. Even though they didn't say it the comment that it is junk is a person comparing it to the expensive European specialty cars and it was not designed for that. In their comparison it achieved what the designers wanted it to achieved. If I had a million dollars I would still choose the Vette.

The original Gen I Viper was intended to be a "Back to the basics" performance car that screamed "Outrageous". The Gen Is and IIs fit the bill. However, when the SRT-10 came out, I fell out of love with them. I was given the opportunity to buy one at dealer's cost and passed on it. They are still awesome cars and I am proud to know they are American born and bred. If you have a chance to put lots of miles on a Viper and a Z06 or C6, you'd probably pick the Vette. The Viper has exclusivity that the Vette will probably never have.

IMHO, this is what a Viper is supposed to look like.

England doesn't have anything like the Vette or Viper over there. The term "muscle car" is synominous with American V8's. Muscle cars aren't meant to be refined and easily controlled. That's why we love 'em.

Although, the Corvette is definitely more refined than the Viper, it's still a wild animal underneath it all. Same with the 6.0 liter GTO. Nice and plush interiors, aggresive but refined exterior styling, but dump the clutch and push the gas pedal to the floor and refinement goes out the window.

Also, the Viper is not garbage. The GTS R was a monster with victories in the 97,98,99 FIA GT2/GTS championships plus victories at Lemans in 98 and 99. It was the dominant car in its class until the C5 R came on the scene. In the road racing world, the Viper handed the Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porche their collective a$$. The civilian version might not be as well refined or as agile, but it will cost you three times as much or more to beat it. The C6 Z06 is the Viper's first competitor since the ZR1 vs RT/10 days. The SRT/10 is no longer the dominant car on the scene, but it is far from being garbage.

have you seen any pictures of the new Viper GTS coupe? Looks pretty dang sweet. However, it seems like everyone says...if you want a brutally powerful race-ready car that isn't reall right for the street, get a Viper. If you want an all around, powerful, great handling, street friendly car...get the Vette. I'll take my Z06 in Pewter, please.

Yes I have seen the new GTS, I love it. i think it looks twice as good as the Roadster. I also hear its supposed to be quicker too, because of better aerodynamics of the "hatch back". Now i don't know how accurate this is but I hear the new vipers handle better then the vettes do. But i cant provide proof, so dont flame me to harshly.

The new Viper Coupe is a beautiful car......

I've seen the car in person at the NAIAS and it is nice looking.

HOWEVER, I think it should look like this.....

Here is my take. They squared off the air inlets on the side of the car. They need something with sharper edges on the back. The new Coupe even uses the same tail light lenses that I had in my 98 GTS. The roundish spoiler on the back doesn't match the sharpened air inlets on the side. Now, the GTSR Prototype carries all the characteristics that I believe would make it a 10 on my scale. JMHO!

Btw, look at the rear of the new coupe compared to my old car. They look almost identical.

Jeff Yachnin was an engineer for the new GTS coupe the same lead engineer who designed the firehawk and SS components. When SLP eng went belly up, he moved to the viper and works for ASC
