louvres on '86 T/A

I'll post a picture of what I mean at the end of the post but I was thinking of putting a cowl scoop on (non-functional) becuase I think they look really nice but I don't have the money to buy an all new hood. Anyway the one I was thinking of buying would basically run the length of the hood, in doing so, it would cover the louvres on the front. Would it be ok to cover these, or do they need to open to let air into the engine compartment?



They are mostly covered on the underside of the hood except for some small holes, but I wanted to make sure before doing anything. Also what is a good bonding agent to use to attatch the scoop to the hood?

Shouldn't be a problem. They let some heat out, but not enough to cause overheating if covered. Also, If you are covering the louvers with the cowl-induction scoop, the louvers should vent into the hollow part of the scoop and vent out by the windshield.

The only problem with that is that air is coming in from the cowl area not out...

For the most part, yes. But what little heat which is relieved from the louvers will mix with the cool air coming in from the cowl. If anything, it may even run slightly cooler.

Unless I could go and get it installed so it would be functional, but at that point it might be cheaper just to buy a new hood....thoughts?

You might be able to find one used. Check eBay and post something in the buy/sell message board of this forum.

dude your car is clean for an 86. Clean for any 3rd gen for that matter.

thanks man, I think it was repainted a little while before I bought it, but I do my best to keep it in shape....gotta get my hands on some zaino...
