  • nfb: canine's in the jungle....grrrrrrrrrrrr

took this pic from my neighbors deck last eve. see the yard in house back there? the pic does'nt really show it that well, but in some places, the weeds are over 3 feet tall. the basset hound in there disapears in it sometimes.....

these neighbors are new. since they moved in, my wife had to rescue thier lab who got over the fence in the backyard of which im taking this pic from. mike wasn't home, and his german short haired pointer was gonna kick some lab (_!_) had mary not stopped it. She got the lab back in thier yard...only to have it go over again. No way to reach either of the young couple. Finally had to call animal control who came and got it and took it to the shelter (the ACO's are friends of ours here. Mary has pulled several golden retrievers from the stafford shelter for GRREAT and I have done several wolfdog evals. for them.). Mary put a note on thier door about it and said call us and we will explain. They never called. Never said thanks. Just went and got the lab.

The two neighbors on either side have called and complained about the lab barking constantly because its chained up all day. waking folks up at 5 a.m. on weekends...everyone had left notes on there door, nice ones, asking they please help stop it.... nothing. Now the ACO has issued a warning to them..(barking dog law)... so they went out and bought a basset hound to keep the lab company... so now its lab barks and basset howls.... my wolfdog is about to go over our 6 foot fence to kick some major furr ...she's getting "restless"... the basset comes right over to the fence and stands and does his ooooooooooooooooo thing at her.... our goldens ignore it... but not Keona..

Look at this yard though....ticks, fleas and God knows what else in there... they guy and his wife are partying all the time and dont' do anything...

you ready? His in the Marine Corps stationed at Quanitco here!!! Most of the Marines i've ever met are pretty sharp dudes...they take pride in themselves, thier family, and thier property. My neighbor on the right is going to find out his Commanding Officer and talk to him.......we here they don't like thier soldiers conducting themselves in this manner in public... What else can be done? These poor dogs live a terrible life back there......

    go figure...

My wife and I have neighbors exactly like yours! We had to rescue their blonde lab last month!

She had the mange - real bad - no hair at all, fleas, ear mites, very under weight and looked like a giant walking scab. They keep her tied up on the other side of their house because they thought they could hide her from all the neighbors.

When we discovered her, we jumped the fence, took her in our yard and gave her our dogs medicines to heal her. The next morning, I told a white lie and explained that "blondie" got through the fence and that I had some things that could help her get better. I gave this butt-wipe dog owner two vials of revolution (topical flea treatment) besides the one I applied to the dog, some shampoo to treat the mange, etc. These people didn't even say thank you.

We have four dogs that stay inside with us - all of them rescued locally - a pure-bred Boxer named "Little Nicky," A Collie named "Daisy," a golden retriever named "Savannah," and our latest rescue, "Kanga-reaux" - a terrier.

It doesn't take much to give a dog a decent home - these people CHOOSE to make these animals suffer.

Our Humane Society is severely understaffed - only one SCPA officer for all of Bexar County (San Antonio, TX). We've made complaints but no call backs ever.

I have had more butt-wipe neighbors in my life than I care to remember (I even have one now ). It's very very aggravating and when animals are involved, it's a real shame. Hopefully this guy will get orders from the Marines that send him permanently to another area.

In looking at his yard, I wouldn't hesitate to call the city either about the grass.

Call the City or County Health Department Ken. Two dogs tied up in 4 foot high grass (probably with do-do everywhere..as well as dog food attracting rats and mice ) sounds like a health hazard to me.

You could go over an mow the grass so the dog could find what it is looking for.

This is what I was thinking, health hazard.

Also is the house a rental? If so call the landlord/property manager. Every lease I have ever signed said something about keeping the grass cut.

I actually had to do that to my neighbor's lawn last season. I mowed it three times. Normally, I would leave it, but I was getting ticks in my yard. I didn't want them to get to my kids or the two Jack Russell's we have. My neighbor finally got mad after the last time I did it. He said it was "a slap in the face" that I was mowing his lawn.

I don't like starting trouble, especially with the neighbors, so I tried playing the card that I thought his tractor had broken down. I hadn't spoken to him since until last month when they moved. He simply said goodbye and thanks for being quiet neighbors.
