I have heard rumors that double clutchin can do alot of damage to your car, anyone heard the rumors of how it does or know how it could?

A friend told me thats the quickest way to get off the line, when you first feel it catchin first gear, floor it and pop the clutch, i havent tried it though

What you described is not true double clutching anyway. Some of the old timers can probably explain it better, but double clutching is used in trannies without syncros, I believe. Used to be every tranny. You push the clutch in, shift to neutral, let clutch out, match your revs to what you expect to be in the next gear, push clutch in again and then shift into next desired gear. Large heavy duty trannies like in tractor trailers still use this to some extent today. Of course, passenger cars don't because you have synchros that will take care of differing engine/tranny speed on it's own.Dave M

Yep, you might need it to keep from grinding the gears on a rig, but you should know better than to listen to Vin Deisel and the fast & furious.

Just watch out cuz if you don't double clutch fast enough, your glovebox may spit out washers and cause your floorboard to fall off... you can't have that... especially not when you're racing for respect.Former Ride: 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 - 345 rwhp, 360 rwtq... stock internally.

Speaking as a certified "old timer".......
I learned how to drive in a 1941 Ford pickup truck, with a 3-on-the-floor non-synchro gearbox. It worked exactly like Dave M described, and was used mainly for down shifting. I also drove a mid-50's English Ford (Consul???) with (if I recall correctly) a non-synchro box. That's the last car I can remember that didn't have a full synchro manual tranny.Fred

Hey third gen t5s have no syncro for reverse. Cant say as I have ever needed to double clutch in revese though.
