  • Most over rated cars/engines

I just wanted to talk about cars or engines that are way over rated. Cars that dont exactly live up to the hype that you hear. I'll start, one of the most over rated cars ive ever heard about is.............5.0 mustangs.

At the time they were the $h!t though...easily modded, lots of 'em, and good bang for the buck.

I just think they are over rated because alot of people thing they are really fast in stock form. I know they are great bang for buck but I think it is rather sad because when I was with my friend we wasted one with his 04 f-350 super duty.

5.0's are a good deal a lot of cheap used parts can get ya running 12's easy. But other year stangs are **** sn95's suck and they're slow as **** even the cobra was slow until 03.

I saw a link to the "World's 10 Fastest Cars"..... most of the top ten were exotics, with the 2 exceptions being the C6 at #10, and the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO at #8..... is the EVO really that fast? Too bad the C6 Z06 wasn't available at the time the list was made.

The EVO is a pretty quick car. A coworker of mine has an '03. Stock they're good for mid 13's, and with some tuning to up the boost and some supporting mods, they can easily hit the 12's. Not bad for a 2 liter 4 banger! I raced my coworker in my stock 97 GTP (240 hp) and he took me by about 3-4 carlengths from a 35-110 mph roll.

I was at the track last night. Most of those idiot dont know how to launch in those Evo's. They have to drop that clutch at around 5000-7000 RPMs . Sounds stupid but considering that its all-wheel-drive, thats what u need to get them to seriously launch. With nothing done and a good driver, u can run mid 13's all day long. Now imagine throwing in an after-market turbo, blow-off valve and intercooler, hello mid 12's, and still well under $40,000.

yeah, you've really got to abuse those cars to get the to run, and a lot of owners are afraid of breaking something by doing so. A 5,000rpm launch is not uncommon to get those things moving at the track if you know what you're doing and aren' afraid of it. 1.6x 60' on full street tires can result, too.

Very true. Sick launches, falls on its face half track. Thats where the after market stuff comes into play.

                      That's a completely untrue statement.

The previous generation Saleen Mustang s/c S-281 is the most putrid, horrible, overrated car I have ever driven. Hands down.

Up until 1993 the Mustang was dominating the F-body. It was the introduction of the LT1 that changed things. Those 5.0 Mustangs were fast by those days standards.

That is absolutely correct. It's not fair to compare to things from a different period in time. Technology doesn't stand still. It would be like comparing a LT1 against an LS2. That's 125 horses difference which is a lot more than the difference between an LT1 and a 4.6L Ford motor. Now if you want to compare the 4.6L Ford motor against the LT1 Chevrolet you could have a point. But it's still not totally apples to apples comparing a 4.6L against a 5.7L.

In my experience anyone who is into their car thinks there's is the fastest thing on the planet. Mustangs, Camaros, ricers, you name it.
