Doing the Water Wetter swap tends to help alot. I'm about to do that, and I'm also adding a second fan (coincidentally, I just got one off ebay for a 00 ZX12) and it will be on a waterproof switch so I can turn it on whenever I want.

What kind of bike do you have? Are you familiar at all with the Power Commander Control Center software? Seems pretty straightforward, but it never hurts to ask for those helpful hints.

How hot is it getting? My fan doesn't even kick on until 220. It has only got that high once, and that was the downriver cruise. 90's and stop and go traffic. I think my bike starts to overheat at arount 240-250. That's when you're in the red. What was your temp?

Well I guess maybe it is a Kawasaki thing, but the coolant temp gauge just shows C and H and preset digital LCD increments in between. It was getting right to the red increment. As soon as I kill the bike, the fan kicks on and I can audibly hear the coolant boiling. I'll go get some Redline Water and try that. Then maybe a dual fan setup if that doesn't do the trick.

I have a Honda CBR1100XX, which is notorious for running "warm" They never get in the red though, so if your is, something is definitely wrong. If the coolant has never been changed, it needs it. If it has, then they probably didn't "burp" the system, like you have to do on LT1 cars. If they get bubbles in the coolant, they will overheat like that. It almost sounds like you could have a bad coolant temperature sender. It shouldn't be getting that hot, regardless of how hot the area you live in is. I live in Mobile, and it's 95 degrees and 95% humidity almost daily, and mine has never hit the red. I'd definitely be checking into that soon.

Thanks, great info. I'll definitely look into it. How often do you change the coolant on your CBR? I'm thinking their might be some air in the coolant system as well.

Does your CBR have the PCIII?

I'm supposed to change it every 2 years or so, but I don't. Too much work

My bike takes a PCII. I have one, but never put it on. It really doesn't help on the Blackbirds as much as it does on others. I got mine used VERY cheap, that's the only reason I bought it. On the II's you can't change spark advance or anything like that, so all you can play with is the fuel ratio's. My bike gets really good gas mileage, so I'm kinda worried about changing it. It already runs 6.40's in the 1/8th on motor, and I don't have a laptop to do multiple changes on site. Dyno tuning costs way too much money for at most a 3% gain, so I doubt I'll ever use it. But at least I have it if I ever change my mind

On the way home from work today I was listening to the news. A biker (didn't say what kind) was going 130 mph on lakeshore drive, hit a light pole and smashed his face into a guard rail. He's listed in critical condition. How he survived I have no clue..

Yep, this bike got my attention and my respect really quickly! I've always driven a bike on public roads by the 100% defensive theory, but even sometimes with that, there are just the idiots who pay no attention to cars much less bikes. If only it were still the wild wild west...we could greatly assist the "Survival of the Fittest"!

This guy said the bike was easily good for bottom 9's in the 1/4 on the conservative "boxed" fuel and spark maps. With the custom map and hopefully keeping the front wheel down far enough, I should be able to go grab an 8 sec timeslip with it. We will see. Lot's of guys out at the track have a really hard time keeping the front down through 1st and 2nd and sometimes 3rd.

That bike is already easily capable of mid to high 9's in stock form, if you got the guts to launch it good. That bike will probably run 8's with all the mods you listed. Gear that thing if it isn't already, that's what I'm thinking of doing to my CBR, just to easily walk all the Suzuki's that rip on Honda. They act like cause it's an F4i it's the slowest thing in the world. It's faster than the GSXR 600 of it's year, and up to 04. But that's a whole other tangent I go off on when people talk stupid about the F4i.

You said it. It does take guts. I am normally pretty fearless, but I have to admit, this bike does intimidate me. I have been practicing driving through 3rd at WOT with the front wheel up. You kind of have to manually overide your natural instincts to stay in the throttle once the front lifts.

What are the guys using for shift lights. I would like to use a nice LED shift light. Any suggestions?

You don't have time to be messing with shift lights. I listen to the motor and go by feel, and I usually hit the shifts just right according to my tank cam. I thought about a shift light too, but I'm too busy listening, leaning, feathering, shifting, and making sure nobody is gonna hit me to worry about a stupid light

Awesome bike...like I've stated in threads before, I've always loved ninjas since I was young. Looks great in green too!

Take care of it and ride safe. Like DJ said, up here in Chicago, there are countless times I can remember of people getting hurt/killed on those things. None the less though, I would love to own one when I'm older and am more experienced at riding. At this point, I'm afraid I would kill myself

                                Enjoy it man...good stuff!
