  • This weeks track times ??

Well wednesday night the best run I made was a 14.7. Seems kinda high, I am an average driver, but i'm definatly not bad. I think its my clutch. But not for sure. What else could it be? And what do some of you guys run with near the same mods as me or a little less or more.

Post all of your stats for a better answer.

    What was your 60' time?
    1/8 mile?
    1000'?
    1/4 mile trap speed?

    New tires? Bald?

    What did you launch at?

Being a good driver definitely helps. I know many people who drive stick that could pull off better times simply based on their driving.

What was the altitude? Temperature? There are so many variables.

The first thing that pops out at me is the 60' time. You could shave at least .2-.3 off that with some practice, and that could translate to half a second at the traps. Your mph seems a little low too, but I'm not the expert that some of the other guys here are. What was the altitude and weather like? What about track conditions? Did you cool the car down between runs?

You seem to have just a CAI and exhaust for mods, so I'd say low 14's would be normal under decent conditions, maybe even a high 13 with a good driver and good conditions, and you could almost get there just by working on your 60' time.

As was pointed out, your 60' time, aka "the launch" needs improvement. On decent street radials, shoot for a 2.0x 60' time. That alone wth no other changes should get you a low 14, typical of ET for the speed you show.

i know the big time drag racers say a race is won in the first 60 feet so that would be where i would work on. aka tires clutch rpm

Well my tires are pretty low down, almost time for new ones. And my clutch seems a bit weak. Do you guys think that is the problem.

Well I did find out my air filters are dirty as heck. And I think that was the problem mainly.....I couldnt beleive how dirty they were whenever I pulled them out.

Your clutch and tires will also play a pivotal role in getting you out of the hole quickly, moreso than your air filter. I'm not saying not to clean your air filter (duh! lol ), but if your tires and clutch are worn, its time to replace them. Your face will go from to at the next run down the 1/4 lol

I've never done it either, I had a trans. shop do the clutch. One thing to note...if it is the original clutch, you may want to consider doing the clutch master cylinder as well. Not sure if it was just because of the age of my car or not, but when I talked with SLP when I was considering their clutch, they said that regardless of what I go with replace the master cylinder. Apparently not replacing it can cause problems when you replace the clutch. Something you may want to look into...or someone else can chime in on.
