I'm jumping on the wagon for the Regal. And Neons, while fun little cars, aren't terribly safe. I don't know that I'd want to drive one in a harsh winter.

I think I am set on the regal. I looked at a couple yesterday and they look really nice. (Im going for black) And they are so comfortable. I am going to take a test drive in one this weekend. My plan was to wait till after the winter to get a new car, but I am tempted to just do it now.

We had a black Regal with the factory chrome wheels. It was sharp, especially with the tan leather. Are you looking to get a GS or LSE?

Merc Mystique....I just drove my father's again today and it really does have a European feel. A good balance of power and agility. Try one if you get a chance!

I am leaning towards the LSE. What you had is pretty much what I am looking for Black w/ tan leather. I found one with grey leather.. but it doesnt look as nice. I dont need the supercharger for my Daily Driver.... But then again, it couldnt hurt! haha

The LSE is evry bit as nice. I test drove one at the same dealership we bought the GS. It was the identical color combo. The only noticable difference between the LSE and GS appearance-wise is the rocker panels along with the front and rear facia's are painted grey on the GS. That's it.

As I said earlier, the power of the LSE is nearly identical to the GS except at highway speeds, and even then it's pretty close. The 3800 is a rocket.

Honda Accord, or Toyota Camry they seem to NOT break down much. Good gas mileage, and the service stations will hate you. This is beaters were talking here not performance cars right???

You guys really need to experience what Nissan gets out of their 3.5L V6.

More power, more torque, and far smoother...

It seriously exposes the 3800 for the outdated motor it is.

                      Once again... flamesuit on...

No flames, Jay. The Nissan V6 is a very nice motor. My Sister-in-law has a 2003 Maxima with that powerplant. However, we're still trying to sneak under the $10,000 mark. That's highly unlikely for a low to average mileage Maxima, equally equipped to the Regal LSE. That's all.

Agree... but maybe not for an Altima... I'll try to take a look over the weekend.

i can't agreee with this assumption. when was the last time you were behind the wheel of a GM sedan? back in the '80s?
There are even a few GM's I would flat-out recommend against purchasing.
which ones? again, recent experience or an '80s car?
I was exremely impressed with the Regal. I love the 3800. One of my favorite sixes of all time. Second, the fit and finish of the interior was very un-GM like in the Regal. The materials were of nice quality. The road noise was all but non-exsistant. It was just a great car for the money when you consider the options it had.
this sounds like the GM sedans i know.
Mark was talking a good daily sedan for under the $10,000 range. While the Accord, Camry, and Altima are all superior cars
in what ways? seriously, the old story of GM not having superior cars is a carry-over from the '80s. get some wheel time in GM's cars, you'd be hard pressed to find one that would disappoint.

my suggestion, should the funds be available, is to rent some of the 2000-04 GM sedans in order to become acquianted with them. unless you have friends/family with cars like these, this is about the only way to spend some quality time behind the wheel. while i can be called a fanatic with regard to domestic product, i actually have reason to be proud of our american cars. gone is the old assumption that they are all oversized, gas-guzzling, soot producing behemoths. there are many cars to choose from in the 10k range with all of the bells and whistles you can think of. if you would even take a look at ferds and dodge/chrysler, you might even find a candidate or two among them. i am not that familiar with their models, but i know their engineers have also been working hard to fill the void created by sloppy craftsmanship/shoddy creations of the '80s cars. good luck in your search.

p.s. this is by no means a flame.

Are GM's sedans improved over the 80s? Monumentally, yes.

Are they on par with their imported competition? ... definitely not. I come from a GM family, and have been exposed to all sorts of GM products.

The one who needs to spend some time behind the wheel here is you, my friend. Take a drive in an Infiniti G35, a BMW 3 series, Audi A4, Acura TL... then get behind the wheel of a Grand Prix. It will become painfully obvious to you after that.

Oh... and welcome to the board.

I'll back you up here Jay. My inlaws have a new Regal and while it is nice and I have spent hours driving it the quality is still sub par. I recently drove a new BMW 3 series 2000 miles to Miami and back and man, is it ever night and day. Even my friends new Hyundai Sonata feels superior when it comes to fit finish and materials.
