  • Req. help from a tranny guy(s)

Im over on the gmvsford website and I am trying to help a guy diag a tranny problem and this other guy (who thinks hes God's gift to the 700r4) starts telling everybody how great he is and that I am wrong. I've been debating him (why? because its fun) for a few days and would appreciate if somebody else chimed in.
Go to GMvsFord.com, under Lt1 tech, transmission question. Or, heres the direct link:

    http://www.gmvsford.com/forums/showthread.php3?t=257

Its a long thread, read all 3 pages though; tell me what you think.

Well, it's been my experience that an awful lot can be shown by the way a person communicates. By reading God's gift to the tranny's posts, he doesn't appear to be all that bright. There is an old saying..... If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS. I'm not a trans expert by any means, all I can really comment on is parts that I've broken. If I had to guess, based on lack of experience, I would say there is a band making metal to metal contact. There is also the possibility that it has nothing to do with the trans. Sometimes the serpentine belt will screech on a 2-3 shift. Usually they are quiet on a 1-2 shift due to a certain amount of driveline slip, but on a 2-3 shift the accessories have to slow rather quickly and there is less driveline slip. Often times the belt cannot slow the accessories in sync with the crankshaft, so a screech is heard that people mistake for a trans noise. I've seen that many times. It took an underdrive pulley with a fresh belt to cure that with mine.

Yes, he seems to know just enough to be dangerous. Hes the tranny guy that other people in that thread are talking about. The guy who tears apart every tranny that comes in the door, gets his 1800 bucks and ships em out. When in reality it was a valve body problem or something simple. Gives the auto business a bad name.

I am having fun making him look foolish though. The funny thing is that he has been servicing tranny's (supposedly) for just as long as I have been alive. If you havent already guessed, I enjoy a good debate.
