12 hours with a couple really bright warm halogen work lights aimed at it. Was that too soon? I've seen shops wetsand a panel the same day they paint it, but that is after they bake it.Tracy

According to the Nason directions for their 11 different clears, that should have been long enough. Which clear did you use? What kind of compound did you use? What about the polish? We applied 5 coats of clear on top 4 coats of color. We had to use 4 coats color to get the proper darkness and have the blend perfectly match. I started the rubbing with a heavy cut rubbing compound from mopar I had laying around. It said it is for removing 1000 or higher grit sanding scratches. It is a dealer product used in Dodge body shops. Then I used a 3M product that is for removing compounding scratches, although I forget exactly what the bottle was called. I'm not sure which Nason clear we used, it was whatever the body shop supply gave us to go with the base we used and make it match best. I can look at the containers when I get home and post the numbers off them for you.
I reassembled the tail last night. Replaced the bumper, tail panel, lights, interior trim, etc..
My bro is at my house today finishing up the car. He washed it this morning and buffed out the entire car. He is also waxing it after the buffing. It should look new when I get home from work!
I'm sure I'll find a few more little things to detail on it, but it looks like this project is about finished. I'll see if we can get some pics of the car outside in some good lighting.Tracy

Custom hot rod? Naw, total cost out of pocket so far is $1500. After washing and buffing it today, I think we are going to touch up the nose, wet sand it and clearcoat it. That's the SelectClear clear. It's pretty good stuff from what I've been told. It has a slightly slower flash and tack-free time, but it is a quality clear.
4 coats of color and 5 coats of clear is a bunch! Even most high-end aftermarket paint jobs only have 2 coats of color and 3 coats of clear. You might end up up with the recently painted section looking "deeper" than the rest of the car with that many coats of clear.

Trace, that is some remarkable work! With this dying breed of early 4th gens, it's a a good feeling knowing that there will be yet one more great looking/running Camaro out there. One quick question though, how hard is it to remove the bumper? And did you remove the panel that goes in between the tail lights? If so, how hard was it to take that off?

first remove the tail lights, they are held in with 2 thumbscrews each. Then remove the tail panel. It is held on with 4 10mm nuts. Next is the bumpercover. It is held with 6 plastic push-rivets, 4 christmas trees a couple screws and 6 10mm nuts. Getting the bumper cover off and back on it the hardest part. We had to use a piece of rope tied around one of the studs to pull it into place and make it go in its hole.Tracy

The repair seems to match perfectly. If I didnt know it was just painted, i'd never suspect it. Maybe when it is out in sunlight it will look deeper than the rest of the car.
