  • what could cause this?

My gas milage has dropped DRAMATICALLY, I used to avg 300 miles to the tank, now I am lucky to get 200 if im babying it. I had a bad o2 and I thought that was it so I switched it out and put in a new fuel filter also but that didnt change anything, with these gas prices, this problem is draining my bank account!

    Things to look for:
    -dirty air filter
-exhaust leaks before the O2 sensors
    -misfires
    -leaking EGR valve
    -faulty coolant temp sensor
    -faulty MAP sensor
    -erratic TPS sensor

Rather than use a crude measurement like "miles per tank", take the time to fill it, record the number of gallons used and the number of miles since the last tank, so you will know the "miles per gallon".

Silly as this sounds, aside from mechanical issues, there was this one gas station I used to go to and got horrible gas mileage everytime I filled up there. I tried another gas station and got much better fuel mileage using their's instead. Quality of fuel?

Maybe "3.00 liters" galons instead "3.785 liters" galons.....here in Mexico the gas stations fuel pumps do the wrong math calculations...not on purpose....of course!

Can you get a scanner on it? If so, you could look at the outputs from all the sensors and see if there is anything out of the normal range.

for $90 you can buy a cable and download freescan. Then you could use a laptop to capture a run log and post it here for the exerts to analyze.

I have also experienced this problem. Bad or poor gas is totaly possible. Definatly get a scanner on it and see if anything comes up.

Thats funny, i usually average about 215 miles for every 13 gallons i run

Of course i do mostly "city" driving. Newark is just a town compared to Philly or even Wilmington, but when my way to work is to cut through UD campus Lots of students and lots of stopping It comes to about 17 mpg with some lead foot action.
