you can but some ppl say do it gradually because the synthetic is said to be able to knock old oil deposits loose and can cause problems, but many ppl just do it all at once and not have a prob so really its up to you.

synthetic doesnt give u any better performance, just protects against wear more

Yes you can switch over, as long as you change everything like the filter, or drain it out, witch u will probably do anyway. And usually synthetic is a little big easier for the crank to tread through, but its extremly minimal.

I disagree. Im not saying it gives a big performance boost, but I have seen a few dyno test in car mags(Hot Rod is the main one that comes to mind) and it seems in most cases you can pick up about 5hp from synthetic oil.

I cant explain it, I have personally never done any oil testing. I am just going by a Hot Rod dyno test.

Actually, yes it does give you a performance boost. Less friction in the valvetrain will free up some HP, which is generally what synthetic oils do. Do some research and you'll change your mind.

As for switching to synthetic, I've changed all 3 of my vehicles over to synthetic from convential oil without any gradual periods. Just switched straight over, no problems. I'm running Royal Purple in all 3 and highly recommend it if you have the money.

I have seen Combination Motorsports take a shortblock done by "another" shop and gain over 25-30 RWHP by merely re-honing the cylinders correctly to a zero tolerance. Nothing else. The reason you ask?......less friction.

Synthetic oil does the same thing. Less coefficient of friction between the cylinder walls and the rings and skirts, and less friction between the bearings and journals equates to freed up HP.
