Agreed, I thought it was a pretty funny post as well. I think we all know Kevin well enough to know that he has a good sense of humor and was just kidding.
I don't think so. You ight think different if it was Scott Settlemire or another "GM" person that was being talked about. Shelby worked for Oldmobilie for while.

Jeff, I was just kidding. I thought the comments about his health had no place in the article, and I was kind of playing devil's advocate with the silly information and the way the article was written. I do get carried away sometimes and my sense of humor is not for everybody.
yeah has anyone seen the new car and driver... the new shelby gt500 (500hp) cant even touch a c6 ls2 (400hp) vette.... i think theyre going to need a prayer or maybe a 600hp car to even be able to see fbody hazards at the end of the race.... hahah

I guess I just never really never understood the whole car manufacturer bias thing. I've always just appreciated each car for what it is and not which manufacturer badge is on the front of the car.
I think the Shelby GT500 is still going to be a pretty fun car. It may be a bit heavy at 3,850 lbs and the weight distrbution is very front prominent at 57/43, but that thing is being produced with a fully forged bottom end. A few tweaks to make more boost(only 8.5 pounds stock) and control it better and that thing could easily be made into a beast. With 14" front rotors, brembo 4 piston brakes, and a pretty nicely setup suspension, this thing should handle and brake very well also. At a reported price range of 38k - 41k, this ain't a bad deal.

I saw this rendition in a magazine a few months ago. I almost hate to admit it, but I will seriously consider this car when it comes out. I'm for the Camaro, Challenger, and Cobra to be released before I even think of selling the T/A.

Finally I think we might a a pretty good selection of cars to make a decision from.
Well the GT500 is using a bigger 5.4l iron block. They are saying that and the blower alone are worth another 175 lbs over the 4.6 aluminum motor. Bigger brakes, bigger wheels and tires, etc.
But you would think with today's technology they would be able to get these cars way lighter.

Probably cost related, not technology related, unless we question why the technology and materials to make it light is still so expensive.

Yeah, you know I look at all the new cell phones, TV's, computers, motorcycles, DVD players, cameras, etc. They are all getting better and lighter. Yet all of the sudden, our performance cars seem to be getting heavier and heavier.
I'm sure cost plays a large role, but you would think there would still be a cost effective way to offset some of that extra weight., you know.

You also have to take into account the additional safety equipment that is being added, and the additional structure required to meet the governments increasing crash standards. More and more of todays cars are made of aluminum, but they still seem to be heavy.
Remember how sloppy the chasis were on older cars? They would flex and bend easily. Consumers are demanding more rigid chasis, that adds weight too.

Good point. That big hike in metal prices a few years ago didn't help either.

Bingo, not to mention all the gadgets they are putting in cars for safety and convienance(sp?) Like ABS and wiring involved, airbags, power options, navagations systems...they all add weight that could be spared, but good luck selling a car without some of these things.
