  • changing my oil......

    I'm doing my oil today, but i forgot what oil i used last time. What weight oil should i use?????? Also i'm getting a 160* thermostat. does it matter what brand i get?????

    Follow your Owner's Manual.... 5W-30, with 10W-30 being acceptable if temperature will not go below 0degF.

    You must get a thermostat made specifically for an LT1 reverse flow cooling system. I know Hypertech makes one for about $20. Most auto parts store will not know the correct part, and will try and sell you a generic t'stat for a small block Chevy. That will not work correctly.

      okay thanks Injuneer. As you can tell, i don't know a whole lot bout my engine and that stuff.

        Got the Hypertech 160* powerstat in mine for many years and works great. Still get enough heat in the winter and barely goes over 185* even on a hot summer day with the AC running.

        To take full advantage of the 160* I strongly recommend you reprogram the fans either with Hypertech PP+ or PPIII, or in a custom tune. There might even be a low temp switch for your model year, not sure.
