Hey! That looks familiar! Hows the header project coming along?

Looks great Tracy! Looks orange in your pic. Now you just need some polished valve covers to really set that red off.

The flourescent light made them look orange. The header project is for the headers to arrive. They are ordered and paid for, but SLP is apparently having problems with the machine that bends up the Y pipe. So, my order is on hold until they get that fixed. As far as valve covers, I'll probably get a set of the composite Corvette covers. I like a factory look.

Looks good. Does anyone know if the paint goes flat after a while. I want to paint mine but araid that it will dull right away. The only thing I would have done differently is polish the fuel rails

Powdercoat stays shiny. Polishing fuel rails takes 5 minutes.

The composite valve covers have more clearance for rockers cause they use studs to mount and don't have any internal brackets or braces. They also absorb some of the clatter so that makes them knock sensor friendly. And, yeah, they look cool.

You do realize that if your engine looks too much like mine when you're done with it, you'll have to park down the block at the next CC Summer Nats? Right? I don't want people to think we are related...

Just keep wearing the cheese hat, that'll make sure they don't think you guys are related lol

On a more serious note...the LT4 covers actually absorb more of the rocker noise? Is it possible to paint/powdercoat them?

I don't even own a cheese hat Not much of a Packers fan neither

I suppose you could degrease them real good and paint them up. They are some kind of filled plastic. Although they are hi temp, powdercoating requires a static charge and heat soak at 250 deg, and not sure you could get the powder to stick a non-metallic substrate and 250 deg for 1/2 hour might be a bit much for them. I wouldn't try it on mine

I'm still debating the water pump.

Should I run an electric pump or not?

It would be cool to run a standard SBC double roller timing set and not have to be restricted to the LT1 / 4 set.

It would also be easier to stay with a 1994 timing cover and non-vented optispark.

If I wanted to run the pump mechanically, I'd have to convert to a vented opti and get a new timing cover so I could run the LT4 timing set.

What to do? Are electric pumps reliable? Would I be able to drive it on the highway for extended periods over years without problems? I know Kevin keeps a spare in his trunk, just in case. I dont want to have to worry like that.

Stock mechanical pump is more reliable. So is the 95 opti.
