I picked up a used T56. I want to lookover inside for any wear or bad shift fork pads. I do have the T56 service manual. In there it shows how to remove the rear section(tailshaft). Which i did. I do need 5/6 shift fork pads. I was wanting to check the front section if i need pads, or any worn out parts. The t56 manual shows to remove tailshaft housing, remove shift fork rods and gears then split cases. For a normal rebuild or a trans shop this works. I dont have the special pullers to remove the gears. Is it possible to remove the front case bolts and slide the front case off without messing anything up or is there something holding say the input shaft permanently into the front housing?
GM shift fork pads are plastic, Teflon? I do see bronze pads available. Is there any pro's or con's to the bronze pads?
Thanks.
