  • power window driver side

last year i replaced my passenger side power window motor, because of the well known symptoms. ( window just stops halfway, after some minutes it will move again some inches etc etc).
Now at my drives side i've a different kind of problem. if i pull the window down, it will go just fine. but when pulling it back up, it went just about 2 inches. it won't go further up. going back down is no problem, but when pulling back up, only 2 inches. So i took the cross bar assembly out (being careful around the loaded spring, checked my rollers and gliders, greased everything, assembled everything again, same problem!
is it something i'm looking over? or is it just the power window motor again?
    thanks for any input

Sorry to say Motor 4th gens have crappy motors.I have had good luck with NAPA motors. I would stay away from the cheap crap on E-bay unless you enjoy changing them.

Try this...after lowering your driverside window, help it up by pulling up close to your side mirror (you want to pull close to your side mirror because of the motor location, you want leverage). As you help it up see if it slowly stops, or suddenly, jerking. If it jerks, it might mean that something is either broken or in it's path. I'd reinspect everything...

I replaced 3 motors on my '96 Camaro. I'm getting ready to replace #2 on my current car. It's a PITA, but at least you don't have to take it to a shop to get the work done.

it was indeed the power motor. i replaced it with a napa motor as advised.
because the old motor was attached with screws i suspect is has already been replaced by the former owner.
so that make 3 replaced window motors on a 1996 camara.
the napa motor was a rebuild motor. i hope this one will last.

I had the motor and regulator replaced in my drivers side '97 Z28 2 months ago at the dealer. 600.00 parts and labor. Ouch. I was told the regulator was a seperate part from the motor. They first put just the motor in and it would not go up exactly as it should. It had about an 1/8 inch space towards the lower front of the glass in the full up position. They took it apart again and put in a new regulator an then it worked fine. Expensive though!!!
