  • Water Pump

Probably not a good title to this thread, but a title no-the-less. Friday while I was out last minute Christmas shopping, I noticed dripping from underneath the TA. It was wet in places outside so I assumed I went through a puddle and it was just excess water dripping from underneath. Anway I got home put the car in the garage and the sweet smell of coolant hit me in the face. So I ivestigated, found the leak, and took off the water pump. I ordered a pump from the only place that could get it to me the next day because no one had them in stock. Any way here's where things got wierd. Saturday morning I got a call fairly early from the parts store, which was awsome because I hate my car being down. I went as fast as the expedition would take me to get my new part. I opened the box to insure the part was the same and as always it wasn't. The new pump had holes to bolt on a pulley, and mine was pressed on. After some researched I learned that those water pumps came on the 2000 and up engines, but my car was made in April of 1999. Is there anyway to find out if my engine has been replaced under warranty with me not being the original owner?

The original engine will have the vehicles VIN stamped on it somewhere, usually at the back of the block near the tranny bell housing (at least that's where the Gen 1 and Gen 2 SBC's have it.

Thanks for the help sir. Would a dealer have something like that on record if they referenced my VIN in thier computer.

So I replaced the water pump last night but now my low coolant level light will not go off. Any thoughts to why this may be. According to the dip stick the coolant level is full. Did I maybe miss a step when I replaced the pump. This is my first time doing any work on an LS1 so the odds of me missing something are very good. The light was on last night, not on first thing this morning on the way to work, then about after 10 minutes of running, it came on and stayed on.

The sensors are prone to failure. Replace the sensor.

I don't understand those coolant sensors either. As soon as mine came on for the 1st time ever, it wouldn't go back out after we fixed the problem and we just assumed the sensor was bad then. Maybe GM made the sensors so if they ever came on, they'd break and you had to replace 'em??!!

All work done by a GM dealer will be logged into the record for your car. A dealer should be able to pull it up and see if the engine was ever replaced under warranty.
