  • tire tread question

well my tires are wearing fast on the insides of both my front tires, but normally every where else. When i take my car to a tire place, what service should i ask for? Thanks guys.

It's the toe. If it were the camber it would be worn evenly but tapered across the tread.

Actually, if the front tires are wearing on the inside, that indicates excessive "negative" camber. In Lehman's terms, if the top of the tire is tilted toward the car it is negative, or if it is away from the car it is positive. A toe problem would give what is considered a "saw-tooth" effect across the tread.

      Hope this helps.

That's not true. Camber will leave an even taper across the tread. A toe problem will wear the first tread block on the inside or outside. Ask an alignment guy and they will tell you this.

        "ALIGNMENT AND WEAR CHARACTERISTICS
        Excessive Toe

Excessive toe-in/positive toe results in outside edge wear of the tire
Excessive toe-out/negative toe results in inside edge wear of the tire
Toe is easily adjusted on most vehicle steer axles
        Excessive Camber

Excessive positive camber: smooth wear patterns on the outer half of the tire tread
Excessive negative camber: smooth wear patterns on the inner half of the tire tread
        Excessive Scrub

Excessive scrub results in inside/outside steer axle tire wear patterns
Affects all tires on the vehicle "

Rear tires wearing quicker than fronts would be a driver problem. Replace the driver and see if tire wear gets any better. If not get larger tires like umm.. Truck tires with uhh 10ply.. Should help a bit.

It means you should rotate the front to the back and proceed...
