Does anyone know what the part number is for the Factory 12 disc changer for a 2002 Firebird? Also, is there a mounting bracket for this, or is does the unit have a built in mount? Thanks for your replies.

i dont have the part number.....but there is a mounting bracket. i installed one in my compTA. the cars are prewired for them. install it on the little shelf on the left side of the hatch well. pull off the vinal pannel there, the wire has tape (97's did) over the connetor..... just plug it in and your set to go. 10 min. install. i drilled two holes on the shelf and used big sheet metal screws. never a prob. that was 4 years ago.

So my 97 TA should have the hookups for a CD changer as well?
If it has them, do the excisting controls run the changer or do you need to run a control unit to the front like the aftermarket units?97 Trans Am A4 more or less stock (Mods: WS6 Ram Air with Fernco & K&N, 12 disc CD changer, power antenna, SLP Fan Switch, LS1 Aluminum DS, Borla Cat back, McCord power plate, Spohn tower brace, Sirius, HID fog lights)

existing contros run it! even the steering wheel ones if you have it. awesome set up. thats why it was a ten min. install. yes..you have the connector. just pull off that pannel.
Sure can't wait to finish my job here in Alabama to go home and check it out. I've been looking at a Sony 10 disk CD changer with a RF Modulator. My wife has a Pioneer 6 disk with RF Mod. in her baby and it's sound great. No problems.
The reason I was thinking about Sony is that it can play the MP3 files. Currently I have over 100 CD's worth of MP3's using roughly 5.5 GB of data. So 10 CD's with 700MB each would still give me some more room for more sound.
The plug and play 12 disk changer sounds much simpler to install and you can use the exsting controls.97 Trans Am A4 more or less stock (Mods: WS6 Ram Air with Fernco & K&N, 12 disc CD changer, power antenna, SLP Fan Switch, LS1 Aluminum DS, Borla Cat back, McCord power plate, Spohn tower brace, Sirius, HID fog lights)

Question for you guys who added the changer. Do you have a CD player or a cassette deck on the head unit?
I read on some audio site that if you have the CD player it doesn't have the option for a changer but you can add a tape deck.97 Trans Am A4 more or less stock (Mods: WS6 Ram Air with Fernco & K&N, 12 disc CD changer, power antenna, SLP Fan Switch, LS1 Aluminum DS, Borla Cat back, McCord power plate, Spohn tower brace, Sirius, HID fog lights)

Well....
Smart and logic question....but no the answer...I mean, the logic would be: cassette in the head unit and the CD changer; but ilogically, in my case, the head unit has CD player (Monsoon, by the way) and I installed a Delco 6 CD changer....not sense at all. But i have 7 CD options to choose. I dont listen cassettes anymore, the sound quality is "bad", and I did not want to replace the CD head unit with a cassette one.
Now, if your car has installed a Head unit with CD, it is very common your car has the wiring harness to connect the CD changer as well. Word of clarification...the head unit part number (09380122) has the chip to drive the CD changer thru the steering wheel controls. So, i strongly recommend to check your car's head unit part number to assure you can install a CD changer 6 or 12 CDs.
I passed thru this a couple of years ago.
