Im a turbo guy,I love turbo's,before I got my lt1,I was looking at srt-4's,turbo mr2's,eclipse turbo gsx's,and twin turbo 300z's,just got a good deal on the lt1Originally posted by ConEliteWhy not stroke and bore it when its rebuild. Do some heads/cam. All forged internals and 4 bolt mains. That there should be equal to an S/C or turbo on a stock LTx plus u dont have to worry about Boost and all the work that comes with that.2000 blue mustang gt vert 5spd,18''cobra rims, light bar, stalker bodykit, lowered 2 1/2'',roush side exhaust /with x pipe ,bbk cai, power products 75mm tb and plenum Pro 5.0 3:90 gears,Custom 91 octane SCT tune

Turbo IMO. No loss at the pulley system, power comes from the exhaust, blah blah blah. Its not always there, so you have good cruisability (love that in the GN). Buuuuuuut, when you dip into the pedal a little bit and hear that whine...it puts a nice smile on your face
. Just my 0.02.

this might sound weird, but I love the turbo lag,how it puts u back in your sit and gives u whiplash soon as the turbo whines up,do superchargers do that??,I dont know anything about s-chargers,besides there more common on v8'sOriginally posted by Z Ya LaterTurbo IMO. No, they're instantaneous. Besides, turbo lag is fairly small to say the least on any modern systemOriginally posted by DHolmesthis might sound weird, but I love the turbo lag,how it puts u back in your sit and gives u whiplash soon as the turbo whines up,do superchargers do that??,I dont know anything about s-chargers,besides there more common on v8's
. And yes, that whine is lovely to say the least. Almost as good as the passenger's reaction when he/she realizes that their head is buried in the headrest

to answer your question more specific. they are about the same in cost, the same in reliability, the turbo will make more power, the turbo is alot harder to install and requires alot of custom parts. supercharger is basically a bolt on and go setup. both require a dyno tune, and parts to back up the power you're going to make with a boosted lt1 motor.87 GTA: it's winter time, all tore apart

So the s-charger is easier to install and requires less parts, how much more power will u gain from a turbo,And what will need to be done to my engine as far as a rebuild(136K)My girlfriend will be getting a 04 cobra in 3months or so,And I cant let her have a faster car then me ,So I was going to get turbo or s-charger ,so I can still be fasterOriginally posted by MunsonGTAto answer your question more specific. they are about the same in cost, the same in reliability, the turbo will make more power, the turbo is alot harder to install and requires alot of custom parts. supercharger is basically a bolt on and go setup. both require a dyno tune, and parts to back up the power you're going to make with a boosted lt1 motor.

Check out ATI prochargers. I think there the best on the market right now and have a but load of set ups. the best thing i think about them is they have warranty's and they make some of the most streetable horsepower for Superchargers. As for turbo's STS rear mounted turbos are getting really good reviews. MTI did on on a GTO for a highspeed shoot out against lingenfelter, hennesy vipers . Alot of horsepower but it keeps a lot of the heat out and it takes cold air in and not any hot air from the engine. Not too expensive if believe either. You could probably have mid to low 12's stock on either set up.

you'll need a complete forged rebuild if you plan to run any moderate power with boost. as mentioned, turbos are easier to control boost. SC's you have to use a different pulley to change your boost, which really isn't that hard. i'd personally go turbo but it's alot more work. a SC setup is basically a bolt on and go setup, with minor mods to the car. a turbo setup, unless you buy a full kit, will require the turbo, connection pipes, turbo manifold/header, oil line ran for the turbo. both will require larger injectors and a custom tune. you're looking at probably 5k or so to do the motor rebuild, boost setup reguardless of which way you go, and get a tune done. and that's with you doing the majority of the work, it'll be more if you have somebody else do it.Originally posted by DHolmesSo the s-charger is easier to install and requires less parts, how much more power will u gain from a turbo,And what will need to be done to my engine as far as a rebuild(136K)My girlfriend will be getting a 04 cobra in 3months or so,And I cant let her have a faster car then me ,So I was going to get turbo or s-charger ,so I can still be faster

thats expensive I had my old honda turbo'ed for 4k,install and everthing, but the turbo was from a crashed 99 eclipse Gsx,it was a 16g,got a deal,Originally posted by MunsonGTAyou'll need a complete forged rebuild if you plan to run any moderate power with boost. as mentioned, turbos are easier to control boost. well an lt1 motor with 136k miles isn't going to hold up to any boost, atleast for not very long. so you're basically looking at this.Originally posted by DHolmesthats expensive I had my old honda turbo'ed for 4k,install and everthing
350 rebuild:
you do it - 700/800 bucks for a cheaper rebuild
you do it - 1k+ for a good forged rebuild like eagle
turbo setup:
you buy the parts and build it - 2k or so
you buy the parts and have somebody else build it - 3k or so
you buy a kit and install yourself - 4k or so
you buy a kit and have a shop install - 4500 or more
SC setup:
basically the same as above only you could install it yourself much easier
injectors:
300 or so.
fuel pump:
125 for walbro, not sure if that would be enough pump or not
dyno tune:
400-600 depending on where you go
some shops might also offer you a package deal if you get the rebuild done through them, the turbo setup through them, and then have them dyno tune it. a buddy of mine did that with his ls1 TA, he ended up around 7k out the door for a complete engine rebuild to handle 600 rwhp, some other engine work, a single front mount turbo setup, all supporting mods for the fuel system, and a dyno tune. he made 412/470 to the tires with only 6 lbs of boost through the stock 4l60e.87 GTA: it's winter time, all tore apart
