I've been thinking about this a bit over the last few days. I think if the marketing and styling departments were smart, they would have introduced the car just as it sits but called the Tempest. Then introduced a hotter version with various appearance mods like revised front and rear fascias, hoodscoops and spoiler being called the GTO. This way two versions could be had, one stripped down version for less money and one loaded higher end version. More people could be satisfied, higher volume of production as well as a greater offering of aftermarket parts.

Now THAT is a great idea!! Why couldn't anyone at GM think that way?

Those wheels are sweet on the green concept camaro! Does anyone know of a similar wheel that is available retail? Post a link.

All well and good...but it wouldn't sell after about 2 years. What would be the next one to come out? A revised 70 model?

Folks, as much as we like them and what they represent, RETRO MODELS DON'T SELL VERY WELL...show me one...just ONE...that has sold well for more than 2 or 3 years. T-bird? Gone. Prowler? Gone. PT cruiser? BWAAAHAHAHAHA. 'New' Beetle? Well, its still around...but they're offering stupid discounts and trying to breathe new life into the line with verts and turbos...

You hit such a small, focused market segment with a retro-styled car that its just not practical to mass produce them. If they did make a Camaro like the one pictured above, they'd have to be like the Ford GT. VERY exclusive, VERY expensive, and VERY low production.

Not practical. Cool, very nice looking, but not practical.

Name one besides the PTCruiser (I'm not even counting the beetle, sorry) that was reasonably priced? There prices were not practical (except the pt cruiser, which sold fairly well.. but that car is in its own group), the cars themselves were. The designs didn't fail, their overpricing did.

I agree 100%. I was about to respond to this as well. Who would pay 20+ thousand for a compact VW "Bug". This is a $15,000 car at best. I remember a conversation I had with a female friend who loved it, but there was no way in heck that she was going to pay that kind of pricetag for a small economy car. I think they have dropped the price on them, but the interest is gone now especially since it is primarily a chick car. The Thunderbird is the same way...there are a lot of people who love it including my fiancee. ...but, like I told her... "If we are going to spend $40,000 on a car, we are going to buy a Vette." The t-bird would sell extremely well if it was a $28,000 car, or if they bumped up the price, performance, trim, and lowered production. I think, because there is novelty, the car prices are inflated when they debut, but the average Joe looks at the prices and then shop's elsewhere. However, the plan was to only build 100,000 t-birds in three or four years to make the car limited and exclusive which is actually working well. The cars won't even hit the showroom floor in some areas and then not sell in others. Since this was the plan, they should have made the car into something spectacular...the design was there.

I think the '05 Mustang as a throwback to the old fastback design is a great idea. If kept in the same price range, will do extremely well.

The new GTO is one big dissapointment. It looks nothing like a real american muscle car. Sadly it's nothing more than a high powered dodge avenger clone.

Did any of you watch the GTO commercial last night during the football game? ...a cloud of smoke with the camera eventually maneuvering its way to the rear wheels spinning. Almost as good as the '98 WS6 sitting at the stop light.

                        Yes...but it depends

When I first saw the GTO in red and in yellow, I thought it was horrid. However, when I saw it in black...I was drooling. Granted, black makes just about any car look better, but that should be the only way that the GTO should be sold. Interior needs better cues and exterior could use a more performance-edge, but in black its not bad at all. Hopefully they don't stick with the mid-30k price tag, else I don't think it will sell. Just my humble 2 cents.
