Agreed.Originally posted by thomasWell 7k for a regular 95 lt1 car?????????? Correct me if Im wrong but thats a little high.
But, I wouldn't write off the LT1 car just yet. What Fred said is correct, the LS1 does have a few advantages over the LT1. But the LT1 is no slouch by any means and, depending on the motor, can give LS1s a good run. As it stands, there's only one LS1 car that has beaten my Z. Plus some of the problems of the LT1 car can be addressed and resolved (replace the Opti with a Delteq or LTCC setup and a Dynaspark Gen 3 Opti, rag joint eliminator, etc.). However, as Fred did point out, parts for the LT1 are starting to wane (look at SLP for example).
If you can talk the guy with the LT1 down, I'd go for that and use the difference for mods. But, that's just me

It's not just " 3 thousand dollars for an LS1 versus an LT1" It is also 3 model years newer- as in, newer cats, newer fuel pump, etc- PROBABLY less maintenance costs up front-
Better brakes, rack and pinion steering, many improvements- I have owned both engines, and I have never looked back....2001 Z28 A4 - 160 deg t-stat, 3.42 gears, WS6 sway bars, rear springs and shocks, UMI SFC's, Torque Arm and STB, leather Firebird seats, Borla, SLP Y-pipe and lid, ZO6 cam and springs - 332 RWHP and 346 RWTQ, not bad for 'almost stock' - work in progress

My opinion on the LT-1:
the cylinders walls are part of the iron block, not sleeves pressed into an aluminum block. The Lt-1 will accept a much larger overbore which means technically, a longer service life until having to sleeve the block. The iron block means better integrity if it's ever overheated badly.
The Lt-1 sounds better than the Ls1 due to the firing order.
The optispark if kept dry, lasts a long time. Get it wet and the headaches begin.
my opinion on the LS1:
early models had thinner sleeves so only a .020 overbore or major rework is needed. Early models also had ring issues that often created oil consuption problems.
increased power over a stock LT-1
Personally, I would get an LT-1 for several reasons. A very nice low mileage LT-1 can be had really cheap, it doesn't have a "black box" that monitors all your driving habits that can be downloaded, insurance is less albiet not by much, and with all the savings you can get yourself a great set of tools. Either car you choose, you're going to need them. Shops will bleed you dry on repairs when they come to pass. Nothing wrong with an LS1 car, I would like to have one of those motors. If I had to chose an LS1 car, it would be an 01 or 02.
In the end though, it's all about personal preferance.

Wow thanks for all the replies guys
I think honestly I'm just gonna wait until spring to buy a V8 car. Don't get me wrong I love my V6 Bird but I want more power
Besides that (off topic a little) but I've got a Good girlfriend thats wants a ring and although she is a good one, I think she would be mad if I bought myself a new toy before buying a ring for her.
Seriously tho you guys really have given me food for thought.
Thank You

Camaros or Firebirds?
I would not own a LS1 Camaro, the front end looks like a bloated fish.
For me, it has to be a 6-speed, and have T-tops at a minimum.
A hard top auto LS1 Camaro.... no thanks. I wouldn't be at all interested in owning it.
There is no feeling like sitting in a 6-speed car with the exhaust screaming as you bang through the gears. Preferable with the top down or the t-tops off.
