  • EGR . . Might be a dumb question, But . . .

So I just got done reading about the LT1 EGR system on shoebox's website (which i must say is a very informative website) and I'm just making sure I understand this. Removing the Egr system on my 96 kinda wouldn't be worth the trouble, unless i was swapping cams? But if i put on Kooks LTs would I need to get rid of the Egr? Like I said it might be a dumb question, but I'm trying to learn as much as I can being i only have a basic understanding of engines . . . I can sure turn a wrench tho LOL

Thanks for the help/explaination guys !

Kooks makes a set of LTs that are emmissions friendly. So, no need to delete the EGR.

You could simply block off the EGR port in the intake where the EGR tube goes if you are using headers without emissions provisions.

Any alterations to the EGR system (blocking ports or removing components) will set codes/SES light. The codes need to be programmed out of the PCM.

Getting the egr deleted on the pcm isn't a big deal cause i'll already need that anyway cause i'm ditching the cats. what i'm wondering is if i should keep the Egr or not since i've read it helps prevent detination? But I also believe my LT1 has the rear manifold oil leak . . . .

So would it be worth saving the EGR or should i just ditch it while i'm under the hood?

Sounds like you have read most everything there is to know, so it's really up to you.
