That's some shoddy work someone did on the car. It will live. It's just not the best scenario.

One side may has more power than the other.

Did you notice the car pulling to one side when accelerating?

Why do you prefer "aftermarket" heads? The LT1 heads (aluminum) can be ported to produce upwards of 500 flywheel HP. You just need a second aluminum head, to match the one you have. Note that there are two very different aluminum head castings used on the LT1's, so you have to match the casting number.

Interesting thing is a stock iron head flows better than the stock aluminum heads, but the extra heat retention may not allow as much timing advance as the aluminum head. Might be a bit difficult to tune.

ok fred so your saying i need to find the number on the alum head? where could i find that? and when i find that and if i gave you the number could you help me find another head? and that would be crappy cause one head would have 103 and who knows what the other head will have. if i swap out the steel head should i rebuild the alum when i replace the other one?

Without going up in the loft over my garage, and looking at my old LT1 heads, I can't give you the specifics. But I believe the numbers are on top of the heads, under the valve covers.

Here is info on the different LT1 heads:

You probably have one f-body head and one Impala head. There will be a thermal imbalance between the two heads as well as a slight difference in flow. If you don't go wide open throttle, I doubt that you will notice anything.

The casting number is the long, vertically oriented number in this pic. This one is known as a 643 (10207643).

ok ok ok so maybe i was dumb and the one side i was hitting the block instead of the head and didnt realize it cause it was from the bottom that i noticed. why would it have alum. heads on both sides? that wouldnt be because it was a vette LT1? it seems to have more power then any other LT1. well i raced a 96 bird with intake full exhaust, gears, programmer, and it was an A4 and i pulled two cars on him. i raced a new EVO (12.6's) he has intake exhasut dyno tune boost controller short throw and a stage 3 clutch. and he only pulled a fender at 120 plus. now he couldve been a bad shifter but my car really surprised me to stay with him that long and i only have intake and muffler single outlet at that. why is this car soo much quicker also with a v6 rear i believe 283 open? someone please correct me if im wrong.
