Back in the days when I had an LT1, I used LT1 edit. It's a good program. Just about any reputable shop should be able to tune your car. I'd give the reputable tuners in your area a call and see if they have something that will work.

If I were you and I have done it before I would get the cable and get someone like PCM for less to make you a tune and send it to you. It's a piece of cake to load. If you get the software to tune it there are so many parameters that if you don't know what you are doing you won't know how to adjust it right.

You can get a mail order tune that should come relatively close to what you need - but watch out, there's a chance it may not be. The more wild go, the more the mail orders will be off. My "mild" cam and head package were a little too much for a mail order tune...it's running terribly rich, but it is definitely better than the stock tune.

Some mail orders are: www.pcmforless.com or www.madz28.com

Ed Wright in Oklahome is very good. I'd rather take my car to a tuner than have a mail order tune. But if you don't have the ability to take it to a tuner, than what else can you do?

well thats what happened is the guy that built my motor got me a mail order and i just dont like the way its setup. also i would love for someone in the area if any i would even be willing to drive it i.e Fred or Ken since im in Va/Md to drive my car it seems like at lower RPMs between 1500 and 2000 it wants to be stupid and from time to time it breaks up top-end. im planing on changing my ign. coild and plugs just since they will be easier then changing opti just for a check. and by stupid its like starting out in 5th gear how it wants to jump and jerk. and yes it is running rich

If its got misfires and/or exhaust leaks before the O2 sensors, its going to run rich. If its got a "big" cam, its going to be very hard to get it to idle right, without blowing a lot of fuel out the exhaust. If you don't have cats, its going to smell rich even if it isn't.

Need more info about the engine. What cam are you running?

Who did the "mail order" tune?

What brand O2 sensors are you running? Are you sure the wires haven't been burned by the headers?

the cam i believe its the cam out of a LT4 Hotcam kit. there is a small leak on each of my headers. the 02s are bosch i believe i got them from advance auto. i have cats but i think the guy prior to me gutted them. im hoping after the holidays to get my catback and a magnaflow high flow. i ran it on my v6 and loved it so im hoping to get the same with the 383. i will try to find my cam card and all the paperwork from the motor build and get it to ya

Based on feedback from posts on other, more active forums, the Bosch O2 sensors have caused problems in a number of cases. There's a very strong consensus that you should use only OEM AC/Delco (now Delphi) O2 sensors.

If you have header leaks, its going to cause it to run rich. Also, as I said, misfires make it run rich. Couple those problems, and you could be pouring enough fuel into the engine to cause it to foul plugs and wash the lubrication off the cylinder walls. Check your oil to see if it has thinned out and smells like gasoline.

Fix the headers leaks. If you don't know the condition of the ignition components, particularly the plugs and wires, replace them. Use the NGK Iridium plugs, probably a TR6 would be best. Gap them correctly. I like the MSD 8.5mm SuperConductor wires. Leave the coil alone. I swear that the MSD coils seem to fail more frequently than the stocker.

You also need to use scan software to data log the PCM. You can get FreeScan for (surprise!) free. TTS DataMaster is free for the first 20 uses., All you need is the correct cable. AKM Electronics can help you out there.

                    http://www.andywhittaker.com/

                    http://www.akmcables.com/

Something like a faulty coolant temp sensor could be causing the problem. The data log, or even a hand held scanner will tell you if that's the problem. IF you run the data log, I'll take a look at it for you.

Who did the mail order tune? I got a madz28 tune and am not at all pleased with the performance, or the customer service (when I get a response).

Is the cable from AKM? If so, it will be correct. The main difference in the cables is the 16-pin connector used on the 95's, so that doesn't affect you.
