    opti is easy.

tools needed: basic ratchet set, crows foot, razor scraper, new water pump gaskets, gasket sealer.

    Drain the radiator
    pull fans
    pull radiator
    pull waterpump
    pull balancer with crows foot
    pull distributor

Do reverse to put it back together. Should only take a couple hours.

Looking back, I don't think it was totally necessary to remove the radiator, but I did it anyway for the extra room.

Oh yeah, get your new opti from "thepartsladi" on ebay.

255 shipped brand new delphi unit. Just got mine and put it in last week. Car runs like a top.

As far as clearing the code, it wont clear while driving, 36 pops right back up, but if I shut it off then fire it back up and then clear it, it will.
It threw that code twice in the same day, so I am assuming that it is the opti.
The harness looked good, but sometimes looks can be deceiving.
This thurday I am going to repace the opti with the cheap one from advance auto.
I'll let you all know what happens as well as keep you all posted if it fails or runs bad.
I still plan on doing the coil pack swap this summer, so it is pointless to spend more than the 150 bucks I can get that one for.
Thank you all for all of the help on this!

"Cheap Opti" is an oxymoron. You may end up paying for it several times. "thepartsladi" on eBay appears to have the best price on a real AC/Delco (Delphi) replacement.

Well.... I put the opti in. It is a reman unit from A1 Cardone. When I first bought this car I thought, DAMN, this car has a ton of power, it would spin the tires a little when I punched it from 20mph. Nothing compared to now. It will straight blow the tires off nailing it from 20mph all the way into 2nd gear. I drove it for about 2 hrs today and not a single pop. It even idles alot better now. I'll let you all know if and when this opti goes down.
