  • need theories on rear suspension problem

well the car is cooling fine now('94 trans am lt1) another problem is at hand in the rear suspension. when the car shifts firm from first 2 second in it or not the rearend hits the underneath of the car rather hard. i installed lakewoods LCA's with the poly bushings, brand new gas charged shocks, boxed in pan hard bar and new factory springs (factory height also) still i have the hit. i can see where it is hitting both bumpers and the trans tunnel shows contact with the shaft yoke. i installed a new trans mount, the front mount of the torque arm looks virtually new and tight. it has the factory torque arm still and it has no damage that i can see. is this common with stock f bodies? should i install a new tubular torque arm and poly mount? and will bags in the springs help? i do not ever intend to drag race this car regular it will be a street car and plan to keep the hp below 400 at the crank any advise will be great thank you!

I put an Autozone trans mount on my old 95 Z28 and it lasted about 2 weeks. The trans mounts from the local parts store just suck. Are you sure it isn't broken again?

Trans mount, or something is wrong with your torque arm- the torque arm takes the wind-up from your rear axle and transfers it to the tail of the transmission. Not a great design, in my opinion, but a cheap way to to it. My solution was to get a tunnel-mounted torque arm, from UMI, to take that load off the back of the tranny, and to more positively control rear axle wind up- remember, those loads go both ways, acceleration and braking-

Get a Poly trans mount from Energy and call it a day.

Is it a tump right by the shifter?

Get an Energy Suspension. Do NOT get a Prothane. The Prothane is hard as a rock and transmits vibrations from the engine up into the frame of the car. I hear it is worse with automatics than 6 speeds.
