  • Bent Axle Shaft?

This question pertains to a 95 Z28 6 spd. A few days ago I was taking a U-turn and decided to get on it for some strange reason. Well, the rear end swung around and slammed into a curb. I busted a rim and the rotor as well. I replaced both of them and now my wheel wobbles as I go (it is quite noticeable). I can also hear a light grinding noise every revolution. The noise sounds like it is coming from the wheel area and not the posi. So I guess my question is, does it sound like a bend axle shaft? If not, what else could it be? Could the grinding noise be a busted wheel bearing, the shaft rubbing the housing, or the rotor rubbing the brake pads because of the bent shaft? I found a place where I can get a used shaft for like 80 bucks shipped. I've never done any drivetrain work, so any tips would also be helpful.

    Thanks,
    Aaron

    yeahhhhh....

    Bent flange on the axle.

If it did not damage the axle housing or anything else... you'll be OK installing another axle. I'd consider replacing the bearing and seal too.

This may be a silly question here, but are there any brands I should stay away from? I'm also a owner of a 93 Taurus SHO and the parts for that car are so rare and particular that you should stick with a certain manufacturer.

      Thanks,

I was told by Superior Axle & Gear, that the axle bearings for these are all from the same manufacturer (can't remember now, but Torrington rings a bell). You can buy them from GM or whoever and they're the same .... so they said.

Possibly Timken? I just picked up the Timken bearing and seal today at autozone.
