  • driveshaft application question?

Does anyone know if the stock driveshafts are the same dimensions from 82 - 02? Same length. spline count, and u-joint size?

It's been my understanding that the 3rd and 4th gen driveshafts are interchangeable.

I also think they are interchangable. Some companies sell driveshafts and they list 82-02 F-Body for an aluminum driveshaft.

Just avoid the V6 driveshafts for the LT1 4th Gens... they are "2-piece". I've seen someone post that the LS1 V6 driveshafts are 1-piece, steel and 3" diameter, and make a good replacement for the LT1 V8 shaft, but I've not seen a confirmation of that.

OK, I really want a good aftermarket piece in light of the fact that I want to put my new slicks and rear end to the test, but I cant afford it right now. The temporary plan is to buy a cheap spare shaft incase I grenade mine at the track; then I could just swap in the spare and that will get me home. Then I can employ the old philosophy "If it breaks, fix it bigger and better".

Just be sure to run a driveshaft loop.
