Since many are expressing their amazement at 300HP from turbo'd 4-cylinder imports, I thought I'd mention what you can do with a lowly 3.4L V6 Buick (isn't that the brand they advertise most in AARP publications- Buick?
).
66 year old John Gallina (yayyyy for the old dudes!!!!) became the first NHRA "Super Stock" class racer to put his car into the 7's. His car is a 1987 Buick Grand National 3.4L (207ci) V6 twin turbo. Weighing in at 3,050#, and making 1,292HP, the car has the low ET record for all SS classes at 7.98-seconds. He also has the class record for speed, at 171.31MPH.
An American, antique push-rod powered cast iron boat anchor..... and its running 7.98@170+MPH.

My "little" girdled 109 block should hold together at 650 lb/ft. That's alot of torque for a 6 banger.

It would also handle well due to the aluminum block.
