Not sure what the confusion is... I know exactly what you meant. Trans = transmission.
My car started life as an M6, so I have no cooler at all in the radiator. When I swapped in the TH400, I added a PermaCool fan assisted trans cooler. Plenty of capacity to keep the trans cool in normal driving and at the track, even with a very high stall convertor. I have it located in the front fender, where most people put the CAI air filter, so if you already have a CAI there, this picture might not help:
