You Jersey boys are too much! If you want to go off road, then you need to get a field car that has no other real value. then when it dies or gets hopelessly stuck, you leave it. It's cool that you had girls with you - They must have been impressed

Grow up, you did the damage, now pay for it. I hope you have to pay for the car.
Do you think what you did with someone elses car is OK? Maybe someone should borrow your car and try that. Sheeesh.

You must have watched the jack a$$ movie huh? I loved it when they demolished the rental car and then took it back. Priceless. I bet you get it to start and they won't have a clue. Better borrow mom's steam cleaner though to hit the carpet

wow...you guys can be cruel...Mark made a mistake; everyone does...really of the wall mistake, but hey it seemed like a fun idea at the moment. Now he's in a bind...let try to help em.

Mark, dude...you can always fix it to it's bare minimum and send it back...trust me, the just gaze around and do a few kicks here and there...clean it well and get it running you'll be able to send it back and they won't know a thing. Most of the guys/girls that work there don't know anything anyways...if you try to return it...do it with a girl (no offense to the girls in the forum; 9 times out of 10, the girl won't know better; she'll just look for dents and scratches and see if it runs). Do a excellent job in cleaning and deodorizing and you can get away with it as long as the car starts right up and drives well.

I mean clean everything nook and cranny...the tires, behind the bumpers, the suspension pecies, under the carpet, radiator, hoses...I mean, clean everything that you can see with your eyes...remember that everything comes back around to bite you in the butt eventually...

                    That's option one...

Option two is this...forget trying to repair it and just send it back. Tell them that you were driving and lost it on wet pavement and slipped into a ditched filled with water; that'll explain the water damage, dirt, and visual damgage...if they ask for a police report...just tell them that you didn't call for police and just got a tow to pull you out...beg them and try to wiggle your way out of the situation...only paying for the minimum.

                    Three...

Tell them the truth...word for word...and pray for the best.

Best of luck...which ever way you decide to go...sorry to hear your horror story...I know how it can be...I've been in some myself.

If he uses option 1 what does that say about society today.

He turns it in and doesn't tell them about it,the company discovers it later on and changes it's policy to no longer rent to young people or demand an even bigger security deposit.

Then next time you go to rent a car[hypothetically] and they ask for way too much information and charge way too much, you can remember who to thank.

Or is this what has become of western "civilisation"where no one is guilty of anything,it's always the other guys fault and everyone is out to get you?

What do you think I would do???

First, I wouldn't ever take it offroad...let alone drown it...but after its said and done, I'd face it and take the problem at hand head on and pray that everything will work out. I'm not telling him to decive the business...just giving him options that he has and letting him choose...I know what route I'll take.

I think he should say that the accellerator pedal went straight to the floor and stuck at wide open throttle and he had to take drastic evasive maneuvers to avoid hitting a woman and her infant and ended up in a water mossacin filled ditch. Then he should say that, even though he almost was drowned and snakebit, and he's a little banged up, there's no permanent damage, and he's willing to settle out of court for pain & suffering and mental anguish and that Johnny Cochran has been calling him, but he hasn't returned any of his calls. Yeah, that should make them take a step back!

I think one mistake was trying to start a hydrolocked engine...the cylinders are filled with water, as Tracy is trying to explain to you how to get the water out. If you start/run the car with water in the cylinders, the water will not compress and you will bend a rod or 2. So tell them not to start it anymore unless they've removed all the plugs!

Whats funny is that I just returned a rental today...a Grand Am...and was reading the fine print on their insurance policies. The damage waiver stated that they will not cover any damage whatsoever if you take the car off-road (any unpaved surface) and if damages occur thereafter. They have many more "fine print" points that exclude them from covering damage due to many different things (also including damage due to driving under the influence, etc.). So I don't think it would have mattered if you would have gotten their insurance...unless you were able to prove it was necessary to drive the car off-road. BTW, that's Enterprise's policy.
