i have a brand new set of 3:73 gears with the install kit sitting right down here in my basement. never been out of the box. we were going to install them in the Firehawk untill we decited to sell our cars.

make me an offer. they are GM's too. thats what to go with.

gears and intall should not cost over 450.00.... 500.00 at the most...otherwise, its a rip.

dont forget though..you need to reprogram the speedometer.

You know how 1st gear pulls harder than 2nd gear, but doesn't have as high of a top speed?

The more aggressive you go with your gearing, from a 3.23 to a 3.42 to a 3.73 to a 4.10, or even a 4.56 the faster you will accelerate through each gear, but the lower the top speed will be.

4.10's are awesome for takeoff and good for a 1/4 mile applications, 3.23's are o.k. for the quarter, but better than 4.10's or 3.73's on top end.

Thanks for all the input! You guys were a great help! Should I get a programmer at the same time as I do the gear? Should I go with superchip programmer? They say that it will add 32 HP! How true is that?

yikes... ed will charge an arm and leg to do that..its just gears.

get the black box inline pcm calibrater from www.slpeng.com

if you send your pcm to ed...might as well get him to do an entire tune for ya. his site has an application that requests all your mods and stuff. he's not cheap. but he's the best.

well since everyone is talking about gears i have somthing to say i had a stock rear end 3.24 gear ratio but odd to say my carrior in the housing broke loose a few days ago i was mad but than i relasied ooo i can get a better gear ratio if a corvette has a 3.42 than i am gonna go to a 3.73 so thats what i did lol i hope it works if u live in michigan i know a great mechanic that rebuilt my whole rear end with new axels and new gear raio for about 1000$ total not bad huh including parts most shops will charge upwards of 1800$+ to do that kind of work the next mods will be getting the heads ported and a cam put in he does that too good choice on the 3.73 4.10 is good but gas millage will suffer a bit

Well... I think you would have been better off spending $1200 and getting a Strange 12 bolt. Plus, your stock gear ratio is 3.23 and a Corvette only has 3.42 gears if its a 6-speed, otherwise if its an auto. it has 3.23 gears just like yours.

Just thought I'd add my input. I have a M6 and just got the 4.10s installed. I went ahead and got the Eaton posi installed at the same time just to get it done and not have to worry about replacing it later if needed. But like most people would say here, for an auto, I wouldn't go higher than the 3.73 if it is a daily driver, especially since you do a lot of highway driving. Also, I'm not sure about the 3.73s, but you may have to rebalance the driveshaft, or better yet get a new aluminum one (does this apply to the 3.73s?). Good luck, and you will wake your car from a deep sleep with the change.

I went with 3.73s (automatic). Anything more would be overkill. You may wish to consider a 1LE aluminum shaft. The stocker is a POS that is out of balance anyway, it will become even more prominant with the new gears.
