  • Random Tech. torque arm woes... w/in

Finally finishing up the suspension in the rear. My BMR order finally came in for the rear sway, and panhard rod. So, I went to install those, plus the Random Technology adjustable Torque Arm. Figured I would do the torque arm first, then sway, then panhard. As for the Install.... I am pretty darn stumped on this one! The stock torque arm was on there pretty good. Took a couple whacks with the rubber mallet to pop the rear section off. Now I can't figure out how to get the back section of the torque arm to align correctly with the rear end. It seems like the rear end is about 3/4" to 1" off, and on a strange angle! If I jack up the rear end, all it does is pretty much lift the back of the car off of the ground. Where am I going wrong??? Almost about ready to get out a prybar and make it fit!

Could really use some fast f-body guru help, was going to try to make it to Island Dragway on Sunday - although 10am doesn't look too good now. Thanks

The trick to installing a torque arm is to get the chassis up on stands and place a jack under the center section of the differential. Without the torqe arm in place the only thing holding the rear in place is the lower control arms and the panhard rod. With a simply pry bar you should be able to rotate the rotate the rear enough to get things lined up. You may have to bolt the bar to the differential first in order to get leverage to rotate the rear. Once in place, you then can unbolt it to slide it in the front mount first, then re-mount it to the rear. The first time is a little rough, once you know how easy it can work it is really simple. A good pry bar is a must though.

      phew! almost there!

Thanks Joe. Think I got it now. I re-read the installation instructions (pretty poor if you ask me). And it finally dawned on me around 3am, to lower the tranny, and play around with jacking the rear up more towards the cover. Sure enough, it started rotating up! Almost done now. And shooting for an ETA at Island of 12, just enough to get 2-3 runs in. Still a little clueless on the pinion angle though. I wish they had included pics of where to mount the angle gauge.

Flat spot on Prop shaft???? Also what angle to set for A4 with max bite.
