Availability. back in 94, you had to wait 6 months or more for an F-Body that wasn't already sitting on a lot, while Stangs were available in just about any configuration you wanted...and if you ordered one, it was weeks, not months for it. Well, the waits never lessened, the orders got cancelled, the Stangs got bought. Hell, i was gonna order a 2001 SS, but they told me that couldn't guarantee me the car before April...in November! Off to the Ford dealer I went...3 weeks later I had the car I wanted....and I ordered it.

One thing thats in the back of my mind is that if my Camaro ever (god forbid) gets stolen or wrecked it will NOT be able to be replaced. The only comparable GM car now is the GTO and I'm not thrilled with its style. I would have to buy a Camaro that is used and maybe that some kid raced and modded and god knows what is wrong with it. I have been the only owner and driver of mine.

Having said that, I feel that I am indeed driving a "rare" car. Production numbers for my model configuration are very low and its out of production. I think there were like 1600 or 1700 "F" bods w/V6 and Y87 package built in 2001. I just feel sad that I am "abusing" my car due to my job loss and money situation. For example, I have a rock chip on the windshield, broken wiper arm, leaky p/s hose, and tires that are as bald as Dr. Phil. I need to put some money into it......

you know what, i herd though the grapevine that chrysler is bringing plymouth back for the 07 model year. what does this have to do with the return of the f-body's, everything, if GM still wants to stay competive.
Chryslers new LX platform (the replacement for the intrepid and the concord) does feature a 5.7 leter HEMI. true, the cars are butt ugly, but still thats alot of power! also, Ford and Shelby are back, and there is that V10 GTS (i think) coming out soon. so, its not outside the realm of possibility. also, i was chatting with someone from GM. they said that he would nto be surprised if they do. their reason for canceling the f-body in the first place was to try and get more people interested in them, then bring them back. so, keep an eye out.

Guys, I'm suprised no one has mentioned this, but the GTO is only slated to be in production for three years, at 18000 units per year. It is not a replacement for the f-bods. Especially for the price tag of 35k. Gm has stated themselves that the GTO project did not go as planned . They were so time restricted that they couldn't change the body at all and basically had to carry over the Monaro body in it's entirety. Come on, that thing looks nothing like a GTO. It has no cues to the old car.

And let's be real with each other....I love my f-body. But it is a very crude machine, that's one of the things I love about it. But to the average person......rattles and clanks from every direction, the hump in the pass. footwell, long as heck doors, low seating position ( which I love ), unusable back seat for adults...etc...

Don't take this as bashing the car, as I said, I love it. But like someone said, people want a grocery-getter with performance to boot. Only us hard core want to put up with a ground hugging road missile with a steering wheel!

I'm a people and i dont want a grocery getter....I like road missiles...but i'm like you... so i guess were all a different breed here...but here is some food for thought....How do you explain vette owners? and I drove a mustang GT last week for a day, and my WS6 just felt so much more solid to me.

Ahhhh, Mustang owners, where do we begin?

I think Mustang people buy the car more for image than we do. Most of us really appreciate the performance of our cars.

Let's face it, if mustang guys bought just the fastest car of them would buy a stang. Our cars are flat out faster, period. I think the majority of it is image. The mustang is marketed much much more, while GM let the f-bods slowly just die off. Our car was always more solid, faster, and in my opinion ours look a ton better.

While it is "cool" to own a stang, I think in the eyes of many the F-bods still carry a somewhat negative stereotype, unfortunately.

Guys, let's be clear on one thing. Anyone taking the time to come into this site, obviously we all love our car. I take the bad because when I mash on the gas it still puts a big ol smile on my face. I love my car, despite it's shortcomings.

As for the vette. I would love to have one. It's problably like owning an f-bod with better (only a little) build quality. And actually it has a huge trunk and the guys that buy it only drive them part of the time. I think for many of us, it's a daily driver.

Excuse me now, I have to go out and wash my missle.

I've done a lot of research on this topic over the years, and I've found it basically comes to down to one thing.... name recognition. The Mustang was first on the scene, sold like crazy for 3 years before GM even had a competitor for it. By that time, the deal was done. Even the sgment is named after the Mustang... pony car. For most who buy a Mustang/F-bod, it's a dialy driver. they aren't enthusiats like we are. The little, everyday things like low seating position and passeneger foot hump become important to them.

In one of GM's publications for the Firebird, it said "We don't build the Firebird for the masses, never have, never will." Well, because they didn't, now they don't build it at all.

Well, I've had both...I hafta say(and my friends and family noticed) that my 'missile' puts the biggest smile on my face out of evey performance vehicle I've ever owned. I love the sound, performance and looks. I love the low seating position and don't care about a hump I never feel...I hope GM brings back the F-bodies and markets them better. I hope that they are available like the Mustang is (that's why i had an 01 GT instead of an SS like I started to buy). Maybe GM will do it right next time...

yea i wasn't arguing between mustangs and f-bodies... i like things about both of them, but to me i like the way the f-body drives better... but anywho on the topic of returning f-bod's, I think it would be cool if they made them quieter and smoother(much like vettes are) and then had a special option model like the V6's had RS the V8's could have some kind of special package that gave throaty sound and more agressive shift points or different gears or something cool like that. That would be a good idea cause it would be the same platform but marketing to both tastes. I'd buy the more agressive one.
For the grocery getters perhaps it could have a Ryder Red Wagon tied to the back...heh...you can get those pretty cheap.

They could make the interior a little more roomier though....i mean look at older cars from like 60's and how huge they were.(well not that big but its just an example.)

I second that, firefinder, I like the seating position, too and of course the performance!

Can you believe I still see "Bullit's" at the track that can't break 14.00 in 2004?!

Market the car and let's continue to kick Ford's behind at the track!
