  • ? about My friend's '04 mach 1

My friend has a 04 mustang mach1. He just got it about a month ago and is now really getting into racing. He took it up to the the dragstrip (elevation = 3,720) and ran 14.088 by taking off with a little less rpm and smoother with the clutch to get more traction, compared to his 14.3, 14.5, and 14.4. He has a 5 speed and street tires. Well because of his traction problem he went and bought some slick radials. How much do you guesstimate this will lower his e.t. time assuming he gets full traction. And another question that i wanted to know, Will his rear-end hold up as well as it should considering dropping the clutch while racing with full traction?

I don't know about the slicks but the axle is pretty stout. Ford motorsports sells the 8.8 axle as their medium duty axle. The only thing they sell that is stronger is the 9". I ripped a tooth off the stock 7.5" axle in an 85 and upgraded to the 8.8 which became standard in 1986. I abused the crap out of mine and never had a lick of problem out of it. I can't find any hp/torque numbers for it. The only thing I found was that it is 35% stronger than the 7.5". I wouldn't worry about it.

I have seen that on a buddies Z28, the BFG drag tires lowered his et. buy .31.. considering he was slipping badly off the line... so depending on how much he was slipping and if he knows how to luanch off the line at the right RPM's, it can make a major difference... PS... what track did he run the 14.??

Well the track is called Intermountain Motors Sports Park, It is by a small town called Acton Montana which is a few mile from Billings. The website is www.raceimsp.com if you want to look at it.
