Well, its good and its bad. Before I explain, let me give some background on the bird.
I bought the car about 3 years ago with alot of the engine work done to it. The guy I bought it from was very unclear as to what was done specifically, because he bought it from a dealer who repossesed it from the original owner who did the engine work. Now, since I bought the car, I did the tranny, rearend, suspension, nitrous etc, but the engine has been a bit of a mystery other than what I could see (obviously an LT4).
Well, its no longer a mystery.......its a 383 Stroker! The computer was programmed by Ed Wright and never seemed right to me. Probably becasue it was programmed as a 350, so im thinking when I get this back together, I will have it programmed to the correct specs and hopefully pick up some serious power.
Now, the bad news. The thrust surface on the crank is wiped out, and I cant replace it with a reman LT1, as I need a stroker crank. According to the machinist, the crank is specially balanced as a stroker and would be quite costly to duplicate. He did indicate that he could save it as long as the thrust surface is not grooved more than .030 - .040. I am anxiously a
his call to let me know. If I need a new crank, it will be off the road for a while as I am looking at about 500 - 600 bucks. With summer coming fast, its not a good time for me financially (as a teacher).
So, im praying that its savable!
Now, questions:
How much power do you guys think this thing should make as a stroked LT4 with ported heads and the other goodies (assuming I get the programming close).
Since its a stroker, its doubtfull that the hotcam was used. How can I find out what cam is in this thing???
